New media environment, environmental regulation and corporate green technology innovation:Evidence from China

Zhenghui Li et al.

Summary: Based on a sample of Chinese A-share listed companies, this study explores the impact of new media environment and environmental regulation on corporate green technology innovation. The findings suggest that the new media environment can inspire heavily polluting companies to improve their green technology innovation, while different environmental regulatory instruments can jointly enhance green technological innovation through pushback and compensation effects. Effective environmental regulation tools can also strengthen stakeholder relationships, enhance the capabilities of heavily polluting companies to respond to public opinion crises, and positively moderate the influence of new media environments on corporate green technological innovation.
