How do contextual factors influence naloxone distribution from syringe service programs in the USA: a cross-sectional study

Barrot H. Lambdin et al.

Summary: This study assessed the association between outer and inner setting factors of syringe service programs (SSPs) and naloxone distribution in the USA. The results showed that SSPs located in areas with high levels of community support distributed more naloxone and served more people. SSPs with proactive refill systems, more distribution days, and older programs were also associated with higher levels of naloxone distribution.

Buprenorphine implementation at syringe service programs following waiver of the Ryan Haight Act in the United States

Barrot H. Lambdin et al.

Summary: The study found that approximately 24% of syringe service programs in the US implemented telehealth buprenorphine induction treatment, with non-governmental organizations and organizations with larger budgets more likely to adopt this approach. Unfortunately, SSPs located in states with higher opioid overdose mortality rates did not show a significantly increased likelihood of telehealth buprenorphine implementation.

Buprenorphine implementation at syringe service programs following waiver of the Ryan Haight Act in the United States

Barrot H. Lambdin et al.

Summary: In 2020, approximately 24% of SSPs implemented buprenorphine inductions via telehealth. Non-governmental SSPs were more likely to implement telehealth buprenorphine compared to government SSPs, and organizations with a larger annual budget were also more likely to implement telehealth buprenorphine. However, SSPs located in states with higher opioid overdose mortality rates did not show significantly higher likelihood of telehealth buprenorphine implementation.
