Impact of home garden interventions in East Africa: Results of three randomized controlled trials

Lutz Depenbusch et al.

Summary: The study found that the home garden intervention in Tanzania had the most significant increase in household production and consumption of vegetables, while there were no significant effects in Kenya and Uganda. Possible reasons include high participation rates of households already producing vegetables and low participation rates in training events. These results suggest a need for better understanding of barriers in implementing home garden interventions in the three countries and more careful design, local adaptation, and targeting.
