Decolourization of bromocresol green dye solution by acid functionalized rice husk: Artificial intelligence modeling, GA optimization, and adsorption studies

Summary: The novel application and comparison of intelligent models, including adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference systems (ANFIS), artificial neural network (ANN), and response surface methodology (RSM), in the adsorptive removal of bromocre-sol green (BCG) dye using acid functionalized rice husk (AFRH) was the main focus of this study. The effects of various process parameters were investigated, and the AFRH was characterized using SEM and FTIR. Optimization with genetic algorithm (GA) showed that temperature was the most influential parameter. The RSM, ANN, and ANFIS models demonstrated good correlation and low error functions, with ANFIS performing the best in BCG removal. Freundlich isotherm best described the equilibrium modeling, and pseudo second-order and Elovich models best accounted for the kinetics. Thermodynamics study indicated that the adsorption process was endothermic and spontaneous. The results highlighted the potential of AFRH in effectively treating BCG dye contaminated wastewater.

Anaerobic co-digestion of various organic wastes: Kinetic modeling and synergistic impact evaluation

Summary: Anaerobic mono- and co-digestion of coffee pulp, cattle manure, food waste, and dewatered sewage sludge were evaluated using biochemical methane potential tests. Mono-digestion of coffee pulp and food waste yielded higher methane yields compared to the co-digestion ratios examined, with no synergistic or antagonistic effects observed. Nine different kinetic models were compared, with cone and modified Gompertz models identified as best-fit for mono- and co-digestion of coffee pulp and cattle manure, and superimposed model for food waste and dewatered sewage sludge.

ANFIS, ANN, and RSM modeling of moisture content reduction of cocoyam slices

Comparison of RSM and ANFIS modeling techniques in corrosion inhibition studies of Aspilia Africana leaf extract on mild steel and aluminium metal in acidic medium

Summary: The study compared the predictive capabilities of response surface methodology (RSM) and adaptive neuro fuzzy inference systems (ANFIS) in modeling aluminum (Al) and mild steel corrosion inhibition by Aspilia Africana (A. Africana). The results showed that both RSM and ANFIS techniques were effective in modeling the corrosion inhibition process, with A. Africana leaf extract exhibiting high corrosion inhibition efficiency for both Al and mild steel. It was also observed that A. Africana acted as a mixed type inhibitor in the corrosion process of Al and mild steel species, as demonstrated by electrochemical and polarization studies.
