Characterization of new natural cellulosic fiber from Calamus tenuis (Jati Bet) cane as a potential reinforcement for polymer composites

Arup Kar et al.

Summary: This study explores the properties of Calamus tenuis cane fibers, including physical, structural, chemical, thermal, mechanical, and morphological properties, and compares them with other lignocellulosic fibers to determine their suitability as reinforcements for polymer composites. The analysis confirms the presence of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin in the fibers, and their thermal stability up to 210 degrees Celsius. It is also found that the fibers have good tensile properties and a rough surface, which could enhance the adhesion between fibers and matrix during composite fabrication.

Characterization and optimization of the properties of untreated high land bamboo fibres

Dawit Tessema Ebissa et al.

Summary: In this experimental study, untreated Ethiopian highland bamboo fibers were characterized and their optimal properties were determined. The surface texture of the fibers was examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), while Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was used to identify the chemical bonds. The thermal properties of the fibers were explored using a thermogravimetric analyzer, and the mechanical properties were improved using experimental design principles. The study established mathematical models based on the response surface methodology (RSM) and validated the operating parameters and optimal mechanical properties.

Dielectric properties and thermal stability of cellulose high-density polyethylene bio-based composites

Asma Khouaja et al.

Summary: The project aims to develop new biocomposites using cellulose fibers to produce dielectric materials based on thermoplastic matrices. The addition of cellulose fibers increased the dielectric constant, the loss factor, and the conductivity of the materials compared to the neat polymer. Additionally, the volume resistivity of all the composites studied decreased with frequency and fiber content.

Evaluation and characterization of a new method of extracting bark wax from Pinus radiata D. Don

Daniel Sandoval-Rivas et al.

Summary: The bark of Pinus radiata D. Don has the potential to be a sustainable alternative to petroleum-derived raw materials in cosmetics production, thanks to its wax content. This study investigates the extraction of lipophilic extracts from pine bark and explores their chemical characteristics for potential cosmetic applications. The results suggest that pine bark waxes could offer a promising environmentally friendly option for the cosmetics industry.

Mild alkaline separation of fiber bundles from eucalyptus bark and their composites with cellulose acetate butyrate

Jinze Dou et al.

Summary: High surface lignin content sclerenchyma fiber bundles were successfully isolated from eucatlyptus bark with a yield of 71% by mild alkali extraction. These fiber bundles exhibited good compatibility with cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB) due to their hydrophobic surfaces, showing promise as reinforcement without the need for plasticizers in composites.
