Low temperature chemical vapor deposition as a sustainable method to obtain c-oriented and highly UV luminescent ZnO thin films

Nadia C. Vega et al.

Summary: We report the fabrication of highly c-oriented and transparent ZnO films with a high UV/visible luminescent ratio on glass substrates using a simple low temperature-atmospheric pressure chemical vapor deposition technique. The films were grown at 240 degrees C, with zinc acetate and water vapor as precursors, eliminating the need for a vacuum system. Varying the source-substrate distance yielded films with different growth rates (ranging from 2 to 44 nm/min), and the film grown with the highest growth rate exhibited a narrower bandgap due to a violet component in the photoluminescence spectra.

Effect of Mn doping on the structural, optical, magnetic properties, and antibacterial activity of ZnO nanospheres

Ebenezar Jeyasingh et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigates the structural, optical, magnetic, and antibacterial properties of Mn-doped ZnO nanoparticles. The synthesized nanoparticles maintained the crystal structure while exhibiting considerable changes in microstructural parameters upon Mn doping. Mn-doped ZnO NPs showed a more significant antibacterial effect compared to pure ZnO NPs, and exhibited a transition from diamagnetic behavior to weak ferromagnetism when doped with Mn ions.

Mn-doped ZnO microspheres as cathode materials for aqueous zinc ion batteries with ultrastability up to 10 000 cycles at a large current density

Juan Zhou et al.

Summary: By utilizing a temperature-regulation method, rough Mn-doped zinc oxide microspheres were prepared, featuring a structure rich in superfine nanoparticles and internal mesopores. This structure not only facilitates Zn2+ diffusion and alleviates stress, but also enhances electrical conductivity. Applied as a cathode material in ZIBs, the Mn-doped ZnO demonstrates excellent rate performance and cycle durability, showing potential for high energy storage applications.

The influence of Mn doping on the structural and optical properties of ZnO nanostructures

Arbab Mohammad Toufiq et al.

Summary: Hydrothermal synthesis of Zn1-xMnxO (x = 0.00, 0.02, 0.04, 0.06) nanostructures resulted in changes in structural, morphological, and optical properties due to successful incorporation of Mn. Mn concentration affected the growth and morphology of ZnO, with a blue shift observed in UV-visible absorption spectra. Photoluminescence spectra showed decreased intensity of broad visible emission peak, attributed to surface defect quenching induced by Mn doping.

Structural and magnetic properties of polycrystalline Zn1-xMnxO films synthesized on glass and p-type Si substrates using Sol-Gel technique

F. Mikailzade et al.

Summary: The structure and magnetization of polycrystalline Zn1-xMnxO3 films (0 <= x <= 0.1) grown on glass and Si substrates using Sol-Gel technique have been studied. It has been found that films grown on Si substrates exhibit ferromagnetic properties after thermal annealing while films grown on glass substrates did not exhibit ferromagnetic order even after thermal treatment. This suggests a potential procedure for achieving room temperature ferromagnetism in Mn doped ZnO films on p-type Si substrates for spintronic device applications.

Summary: In this research, Mn-doped ZnO thin films with different concentrations were grown on a glass substrate using the SILAR technique. The effects of dopant materials on the structural, morphological, optical, and magnetic properties of the films were studied. The results showed that dopants changed the surface morphology and optical properties of the films, with higher Mn concentrations exhibiting ferromagnetism. This transparent DMS material has potential applications in opto-electronics and spintronics.

Elucidating the growth mechanism of ZnO films by atomic layer deposition with oxygen gas via isotopic tracking

Tai Nguyen et al.

Summary: The impact of molecular oxygen on the crystallography, microstructure, and morphology of ZnO films was investigated during growth, revealing significant changes. By combining isotopic tracers with mass spectrometry, a new reaction mechanism for ZnO thin film growth in the presence of gaseous oxygen was proposed, shedding light on the role of ethylperoxy radicals in the process. The use of isotopic substitution allowed for a clear association between the mass gain and the gradual incorporation of gaseous oxygen, supporting the chemical reaction throughout the growth process.
