Mortality among adult patients with sepsis and septic shock in Korea: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Myeong Namgung et al.

Summary: To evaluate mortality rates from sepsis and septic shock in Korea over the past 10 years, a systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted. The study found that the mortality rates from sepsis and septic shock in Korea are high, with 30-day mortality rate of approximately 22.7% and in-hospital mortality rate of approximately 28.1%.

Association of Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) components with mortality

Anssi Polkki et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association between different component scores of Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) and in-hospital mortality. The study found that while all SOFA components were associated with mortality, their weights were not comparable. Higher scores in other organ systems were associated with a higher risk of death compared to higher cardiovascular scores.

A quick Sequential Organ Failure Assessment-negative result at triage is associated with low compliance with sepsis bundles: a retrospective analysis of a multicenter prospective registry

Heesu Park et al.

Summary: A negative qSOFA result at emergency department triage is associated with low compliance with lactate measurement, broad-spectrum antibiotics administration, and crystalloid administration within 3 hours in patients with sepsis.

Prediction of vasopressor requirement among hypotensive patients with suspected infection: usefulness of diastolic shock index and lactate

Da Seul Kim et al.

Summary: This study found that a prediction model using diastolic shock index and lactate levels could help identify patients who are more likely to need vasopressor administration among hypotensive patients with suspected infection. Early initiation of vasopressor therapy was significantly associated with decreased 28-day mortality in patients with a score of 2 points.

Comparison of qSOFA, SIRS, and NEWS scoring systems for diagnosis, mortality, and morbidity of sepsis in emergency department

Ali Fuat Oduncu et al.

Summary: The study compared the qSOFA, SIRS, and NEWS scoring systems in diagnosing sepsis and predicting mortality. It found that NEWS and qSOFA have similar prognosis and are superior to SIRS in both aspects.
