Toward a Holistic Perspective of Congruence Research With the Polynomial Regression Model

Yongheng (Angus) Yao et al.

Summary: This study analyzes 31 congruence-related articles to examine the application of the polynomial regression with response surface analysis (PRRSA) model in congruence research. The analysis reveals that congruence researchers often fail to consider all the necessary conditions for testing congruence effects. Only a few studies support the exact correspondence effect when all conditions are met. Therefore, caution is advised when citing these studies as evidence of congruence and proposing practical implications based on their findings. The study proposes a holistic perspective to facilitate the proper application of the PRRSA model in order to enhance theoretical progress and scientific rigor in congruence research.

I Left Venus and Came Back to Mars: Temporal Focus Congruence in Dyadic Relationships Following Maternity Leave

Yseult Freeney et al.

Summary: This study emphasizes the importance of temporal focus congruence between employees and their line managers in shaping positive relational and career outcomes. A congruent, broader temporal focus enables individuals to reduce reliance on typical biases and consider a woman's past, present, and potential future contributions over the course of her career. The adoption of a broad versus narrow temporal focus on careers offers new insights regarding the temporal dynamics inherent to maternity leave transitions for both returners and their managers.

Omitted Variable Bias: Examining Management Research With the Impact Threshold of a Confounding Variable (ITCV)

John R. Busenbark et al.

Summary: Recent management research emphasizes the importance of considering omitted variables as a primary source of endogeneity bias in empirical estimation. Methodological scholarship advocates for the use of two-stage instrumental variable modeling, but researchers approach this recommendation with caution due to associated challenges. Studies utilizing the impact threshold of a confounding variable (ITCV) technique suggest that most causal inference is unlikely to be biased by omitted variables, with only the most pervasive ones impacting causal inference substantively.

CEO SOCIOPOLITICAL ACTIVISM: A STAKEHOLDER ALIGNMENT MODEL

Donald C. Hambrick et al.

Summary: CEO sociopolitical activism, an important but relatively unexplored phenomenon, is influenced by a CEO's personal values, stakeholders' support expectations, CEO power, celebrity, and narcissism. Stakeholders respond psychologically to CEO activism, with those predisposed toward the stance feeling pride and increased identification, while those opposed experience decreased identification and further solidify their oppositional stance. Comparisons with other society-oriented firm practices can provide insights into their independent and joint effects on stakeholder identification.
