Bayesian Item Response Theory Models With Flexible Generalized Logit Links

Jiwei Zhang et al.

Summary: In this paper, logistic and probit links were used to fit binary item response data in educational and psychological research. A family of IRT models with generalized logit links were proposed, which allowed for adjustment of item characteristic curve tail probability and different link choices for different items within the IRT model framework. The models were implemented in the Stan software and Bayesian model selection criteria were used to guide link choice. Extensive simulation studies and analysis of real reading assessment data were conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed models.

Parsimonious asymmetric item response theory modeling with the complementary log-log link

Hyejin Shim et al.

Summary: Traditional IRT models assume symmetric error distribution and use symmetric link functions. This study proposes a one-parameter CLLM model, which is founded on asymmetric error distribution and has important psychometric properties. Through simulation studies and empirical data analysis, we show that CLLM is estimable in small sample sizes and allows for item-weighted scoring.
