Transgender and Gender Diverse Youth's Experiences of Gender-Related Adversity

Summary: Transgender and gender diverse youth face various traumas and adversities, including gender-related victimization and caregiver rejection. However, there is a lack of comprehensive studies and assessment measures that capture the full range of adversities experienced by these youth. This study qualitatively examines gender- and non-gender-related adversities among a sample of transgender and gender diverse youth seeking services at a pediatric gender center. The findings emphasize the significance of gender-related adversities, including verbal abuse, physical and sexual assault, discrimination, nonaffirmation, and rejection.

Summary: Transgender women sex workers at risk for mental health problems face barriers in accessing mental health care due to stigma and discrimination. Factors such as unwillingness to disclose minority identity and gender non-affirmation negatively impact mental health service utilisation, while confidentiality concerns, discrimination, and cost are common barriers. Interventions should focus on promoting gender affirmation, social support, and adaptive coping, as well as addressing stigma to increase access and utilisation of mental health services among minority populations.

The factors influencing the psychological distress of transgender women in Shandong, China: a cross-sectional study

Summary: This study examined the psychological distress of transgender women in Shandong province, China and found that 20.08% of them experienced psychological distress. Higher monthly income, non-disclosure of sexual orientation and identity, and the perceived lack of importance of the internet in determining sexual orientation were associated with higher levels of psychological distress. Therefore, measures should focus on enhancing social inclusion and acceptance of transgender women's gender identity and sexual orientation, as well as strengthening the role of the internet in confirming sexual orientation.
