Post-Stroke Cognitive Impairment and Dementia

Natalia S. Rost et al.

Summary: Poststroke cognitive impairment and dementia is a common problem among stroke patients, influenced by factors such as age, education level, preexisting cognitive decline, and history of prior stroke. Manifestations of cerebral small vessel disease also contribute to cognitive outcomes. Understanding the interaction between acute stroke events and preexisting brain pathology is crucial for personalized prediction, prevention, targeted interventions, and rehabilitation.

Sleep, physical activity, sedentary behavior, and risk of incident dementia: a prospective cohort study of 431,924 UK Biobank participants

Shu-Yi Huang et al.

Summary: Sleep duration, leisure-time physical activity (LTPA), and screen-based sedentary behavior have been found to have non-linear associations with dementia risk. A combination of 7-hour sleep, moderate-to-high LTPA, and low-to-moderate sedentary behavior showed the lowest dementia risk. These behaviors were also non-linearly associated with brain structures, suggesting that they may affect dementia risk by influencing brain structures.

Physical and Mental Activity, Disease Susceptibility, and Risk of Dementia A Prospective Cohort Study Based on UK Biobank

Jianwei Zhu et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association between patterns of physical and mental activity and dementia, and the role of disease susceptibility in modifying this association. The results showed significant associations between multiple physical and mental activity items and the risk of dementia. Additionally, activity patterns more adherent to frequent vigorous exercise, housework-related activity, and friend/family visit were associated with a reduced risk of dementia.

Biological aging processes underlying cognitive decline and neurodegenerative disease

Mitzi M. Gonzales et al.

Summary: This review provides an overview of the development of ADRD and the relationship between age-related cognitive decline and neurodegenerative changes, highlighting aging processes differentially regulated in neurodegenerative disease. Targeting fundamental processes underlying biological aging may represent a novel avenue to attenuate the development of ADRD.

Cross-sectional associations of housework with cognitive, physical and sensorimotor functions in younger and older community-dwelling adults: the Yishun Study

Shuen Yee Lee et al.

Summary: The study found that housework is associated with higher cognitive function, particularly in attention and memory, among older adults. The associations of housework with physical function and sensorimotor performance were intensity dependent, with heavy housework showing negative effects on some measures. Light housework, however, was not associated with physical or sensorimotor function.
