Summary: This study estimated the indirect cost of locally advanced and metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in China and identified predictors from both patient and caregiver perspectives. The results showed a considerable indirect economic burden on patients and their caregivers. The study suggests expanding medical insurance coverage and improving accessibility to more effective therapies to reduce the economic burden associated with NSCLC.

Summary: This study aimed to estimate the direct non-medical costs of patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in China and explore the factors associated with these costs based on health status. The study found that nutrition costs accounted for the highest proportion of direct non-medical costs. Factors such as residency, caregivers' occupation type, hospitalization frequency, average length of hospital stay, and pathological type significantly influenced the direct non-medical costs in the poor health group, while factors such as residency, marital status, patients' employment status, current caregiving time per day, duration of disease, and hospitalization frequency were statistically associated with the costs in the good health group.

Summary: This study explored the effect of perceived social support on the relationship between psychological and health-related factors and the severity of physical symptoms among cancer patients. The findings showed a significant correlation between social support and the severity of physical symptoms, but no significant correlation with psychological distress, sadness, disturbed body image, and anxiety. However, social support did not have a significant moderation effect on the relationship between psychological and health-related factors and the severity of physical symptoms. Therefore, palliative nurses need to tailor social support interventions to cancer patients, utilizing both professional and family resources.

Summary: Gender differences in mortality in urban and rural China are influenced by major causes of death such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, external causes, and respiratory disease. While the gender gap has decreased in urban areas, it remains stable in rural areas. Traffic accidents play a significant role in reducing the gender gap, but ischemic heart disease and lung cancer contribute to the increase in the gap among older age groups.

Summary: The objective of this study was to investigate different levels of resilience and their impact on quality of life, healthcare utilization and expenditures, and preventive services compliance. The study sample consisted of adults aged 65 and older. The results showed that increasing the number of other protective factors, reducing stress, and avoiding depression were the strongest predictors of medium and high resilience. Individuals with medium and high resilience had higher quality of life and lower healthcare utilization and expenditures. Integrating resilience strategies into healthy aging programs could lead to improvements in quality of life and healthcare outcomes.

Summary: This study examines the relationship between satisfaction with social support, resilience, optimism, and quality of life in cancer patients. The results show a positive correlation between satisfaction, support, resilience, and optimism with quality of life. Informational support from friends and emotional support from partners have the greatest impact on patients' health and coping with the disease. Resilience and optimism also contribute to reducing symptoms. Gender differences were observed, with lower quality of life in females and lower quality of life and higher symptoms in patients undergoing hormone therapy or chemotherapy.

Summary: The purpose of this scoping review is to identify conceptual and theoretical resilience models, types of resilience measures, and outcomes regarding resilience in relation to older adults with multimorbidity. The majority of the models define resilience as dependent on the social and environmental context of older adults. Among the included studies, three out of the five resilience measures are used to evaluate general resilience, primarily focusing on psychological or psychosocial aspects. Furthermore, the common outcomes identified in resilience studies are quality of life and physical activity. Therefore, there is a need for further research incorporating physiological measures or physical properties of resilience, as well as longitudinal studies capturing the dynamic process of resilience in older adults with multimorbidity.

There was no significant association between loneliness and markers of geriatric impairments.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
