Comparison of EV-free fraction, EVs, and total secretome of amniotic mesenchymal stromal cells for their immunomodulatory potential: a translational perspective

Andrea Papait et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of different components in the secretome of human amniotic mesenchymal stromal cells (hAMSCs) on immune modulation. The results showed that the EV-free fraction of the secretome exerted similar effects as the whole secretome on the activation and differentiation of immune cells, while the EV fraction showed no immunomodulatory effect. These findings suggest that the active component responsible for immune regulation in the hAMSC secretome is not conveyed by EVs.

Amniotic membrane mesenchymal stem cells labeled by iron oxide nanoparticles exert cardioprotective effects against isoproterenol (ISO)-induced myocardial damage by targeting inflammatory MAPK/NF-κB pathway

Maryam Naseroleslami et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the protective effects of SPION-labeled MSCs against ISO-induced myocardial injury in the presence of a magnetic field. The results showed that SPION-labeled MSCs significantly improved cardiac function, reduced fibrosis and tissue damage, and suppressed inflammation via a NF-kappa B/MAPK-dependent mechanism. Thus, SPION-labeled MSCs in the presence of a magnetic field could be a beneficial treatment option to reduce inflammation following myocardial injury.

Summary: Human amniotic membrane (hAM) is widely used in tissue engineering, particularly in skin dressing and corneal treatment, due to its extracellular matrix structure and excellent biological properties. Recent research focuses on enhancing hAM performance by creating scaffolds mimicking the native membrane structure. Preservation techniques for maintaining biological functions such as angiogenesis, anti-inflammation, antifibrotic, and antibacterial activity are also essential for native hAM and tissue-engineered products.
