Full Endoscopic Ligamentum Flavum Sparing Unilateral Laminotomy for Bilateral Recess Decompression: Surgical Technique and Clinical Results

Woo-Keun Kwon et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of ligamentum flavum sparing unilateral laminotomy for bilateral recess decompression (ULBRD) in patients with bilateral lateral recess stenoses without significant central stenosis. The results showed that ULBRD resulted in good clinical outcomes with acceptably low perioperative complications rate.

Learning Curve and Complications of Unilateral Biportal Endoscopy : Cumulative Sum and Risk-Adjusted Cumulative Sum Analysis

Jinchao Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the learning curve and complications of unilateral biportal endoscopy (UBE) in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation (LDH) and lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) in 197 patients. The results showed that UBE surgery is effective with low incidence of complications, but mastering the technique requires a learning curve of at least 54 cases.

History and Evolution of the Minimally Invasive Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion

Michael C. Prabhu et al.

Summary: The minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MIS-TLIF) is a widely used surgical technique for lumbar arthrodesis, offering improved efficacy and safety through minimizing soft tissue damage. This article provides an overview of the historical development of posterior-approach treatment for discogenic radiculopathy, culminating in the introduction of MIS-TLIF. The characteristics, technical variability, and reported outcomes of modern MIS-TLIF are evaluated, along with a glimpse into potential future technologies.

Comparison Between 3-Dimensional- Printed Titanium and Polyetheretherketone Cages: 1-Year Outcome After Minimally Invasive Transforaminal Interbody Fusion

Do-Yeon Kim et al.

Summary: This study compared 3D-printed titanium and polyetheretherketone (PEEK) implants after minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MIS-TLIF). There were no significant differences in demographics and clinical outcomes between the two groups, but the fusion grade was better in 3D-printed titanium than in PEEK. Long-term follow-up is required to verify the effectiveness.

Clinical and radiological results of indirect decompression after anterior lumbar interbody fusion in central spinal canal stenosis

Dong Hyun Lee et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the clinical and radiological effects of ALIF for central spinal canal stenosis, showing significant improvement in clinical parameters and a 43.3% increase in spinal canal size postoperatively. ALIF can be considered a suitable alternative to extensive posterior approaches for decompression in central spinal canal stenosis.
