Organic Fertilizers Shape Soil Microbial Communities and Increase Soil Amino Acid Metabolites Content in a Blueberry Orchard

Yulan Tan et al.

Summary: The use of organic waste as a soil additive can improve soil nutrient levels and enhance soil quality. This study investigated the effects of composted spent mushroom substrate, giant panda feces, and cattle manure as organic fertilizers on soil microbial communities and metabolites. The results showed significant differences in microbial communities and metabolites between the organic fertilizer treatments and the control group, indicating that organic fertilizers can promote the production of low molecular-weight metabolites, such as amino acids.

The Efficacy of Micronutrient Fertilizers on the Yield Formulation and Quality of Wheat Grains

Francess Sia Saquee et al.

Summary: Under changing climatic conditions, improving the yield quality in wheat production is vital to combat hidden hunger and enhance human and animal health. Micronutrient fertilizers, especially when mixed with macronutrients, have shown significant positive effects on plant growth, physiological traits, yield components, grain yield, and quality traits. Further studies are necessary to determine the optimal concentrations, forms, and timing of micronutrient application, considering the increasing demand for wheat and the need to address nutritional deficiencies.

Roles of phosphate-solubilizing bacteria in mediating soil legacy phosphorus availability

Hui -Ping Li et al.

Summary: Phosphorus (P) is a vital macronutrient for all life on Earth and plays a crucial role in plant growth and yield. However, P deficiency is a common problem in terrestrial ecosystems worldwide. The use of chemical phosphate fertilizer has limitations due to its non-renewable raw materials and adverse effects on the environment. Therefore, finding alternative strategies, such as phosphate-solubilizing bacteria (PSB), to meet plant P demand is important. This article reviews the biogeochemical P cycling in soil systems, explores the use of PSB to alleviate global P resource shortage, discusses the advances in multi-omics technologies, and analyzes the multiple roles of PSB inoculants in sustainable agricultural practices. The authors propose that further research is needed to better understand the interactive mechanisms between PSB, rhizosphere microbiota, and plants in order to maximize the efficacy of PSB as P activators.
