Genetic diversity, genetic structure, and germplasm source of Chinese pine in North China

Biao Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, we analyzed the genetic diversity and gene flow of Chinese pine populations in northern China. The results showed that the Taiyueshan population in Shanxi province was the core population of natural populations. There were geographical effects among populations, and close populations had a stronger gene flow. The germplasm of plantation populations in Hebei and Liaoning provinces mainly came from the natural populations in Shanxi province. This study provides a theoretical basis for the scientific allocation and management of Chinese pine germplasm resources.

Multiplex molecular marker-assisted analysis of significant pathogens of cotton (Gossypium sp.)

R. L. Chavhan et al.

Summary: Plant pathogens reduce crop quality and yield, resulting in economic losses. Molecular markers based on ITS regions, pthN gene, and CP gene can be used for early and accurate detection of fungal, bacterial, and viral pathogens, respectively. The development of multiplexed assays allows the simultaneous detection of multiple pathogens.

Genomic divergence and introgression among three Populus species

Han Zhang et al.

Summary: Genomic divergence with gene flow is common in plants and animals, with gene flow being asymmetric between different lineages. The genome landscape of divergence between species is heterogeneous, and is influenced by both ancient polymorphisms and ongoing gene flow. Introgressed genes are associated with stress resistance, while candidate genes for postmating barriers in hybrids are linked to endosperm and gamete formation and disease resistance. This study provides insights into the genomic dynamics during speciation and identifies genes and loci involved in hybrid incompatibility.

Genetic diversity, population structure and a core collection establishment of Pinus yunnanensis using microsatellite markers

Yingchun Miao et al.

Summary: Pinus yunnanensis Franch. is an economically and ecologically important pine in southwest China. Genetic diversity and population structure were analyzed using microsatellite markers, revealing high genetic diversity and genetic flow between populations. Three discrete groups were formed due to geographical and ecological isolation. A core collection of individuals was established for conservation and utilization purposes.

The Chinese pine genome and methylome unveil key features of conifer evolution

Shihui Niu et al.

Summary: This study provides important resources and insights into conifer evolution and further research on conifer adaptation and development. The researchers found that the large genome size of conifers is mainly due to intergenic regions and transposable element content. Large genes with long introns exhibit higher expression levels. Additionally, the expansion of gene families in conifers is mainly related to stress responses.

Variation analyses of controlled pollinated families and parental combining ability ofPinus koraiensis

Shuchun Li et al.

Summary: Through evaluating 34 full-sib families of Pinus koraiensis, it was found that the family heritability of all traits was high and volume was the main factor determining excellent single plant selection. The optimal parental hybridization may not necessarily lead to the best combination, but selecting better female or male parents in the test parent group should be efficient.

Monitoring genetic diversity across Pinus tabuliformis seed orchard generations using SSR markers

Boning Yang et al.

Summary: This study explored the extent of genetic diversity across seed orchard generations using SSR markers in Pinus tabuliformis. The results showed that genetic diversity and genetic distance parameters increased with an increase in loci number, reaching a stable trend at 24 SSRs. However, a decreasing trend in genetic diversity was detected with the advancement of orchard generations, indicating the impact of selection and breeding on genetic diversity in effective seed orchard management.

Genetic diversity and population structure of masson pine (Pinus massoniana Lamb.) superior clones in South China as revealed by EST-SSR markers

Lina Mei et al.

Summary: Masson pine is an economically important and widely distributed forest species in China. Genetic diversity and structure analysis revealed moderate genetic differentiation among subpopulations and most genetic variations within populations. Pairwise genetic differentiation differences exist among subpopulations, indicating low gene flow and providing comprehensive information for the collection and protection of valuable masson pine germplasm resources in southern China.

Summary: The study investigated the evolution of coniferous forests in the Northern Hemisphere, revealing that 90% of extant pine species originated in the Miocene and that the midlatitude region has served as an evolutionary museum for global pines. Additionally, it was found that topography and aridity index played crucial roles in pine diversification.

Genetic Diversity and Structure of Pinus densiflora Siebold & Zucc. Populations in Republic of Korea Based on Microsatellite Markers

Ji-Young Ahn et al.

Summary: The study found that Pinus densiflora populations in the Republic of Korea exhibit high genetic diversity and low genetic differentiation among populations. Bayesian clustering revealed a weak geographical structure in P. densiflora. The population of P. densiflora at Mt. Halla, Jeju Island, showed the lowest genetic diversity due to genetic drift and restricted gene flow.
