Assessment of variability among morphological and molecular characters in wild populations of mint [Mentha longifolia (L.) L.] germplasm

Anjina Devi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the agro-morphological traits and genetic differences in 19 populations of Mentha longifolia. The results showed a high degree of morphological and genetic variation among populations, with higher genetic diversity among populations than within populations. This is attributed to low gene flow and greater habitat variability.

Image Analysis of Adventitious Root Quality in Wild Sage and Glossy Abelia Cuttings after Application of Different Indole-3-Butyric Acid Concentrations

Danilo Loconsole et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to optimize stem cutting propagation protocols for wild sage and glossy abelia autumn, and assess the effects of different IBA concentrations and cultivars on adventitious root (AR) quality using image analysis. The results showed that the IBA concentration is an important factor determining AR quality in both taxa, and the sensitivity to IBA dosage varies among species and their cultivars.

Sustainable Exploitation of Greek Rosmarinus officinalis L. Populations for Ornamental Use through Propagation by Shoot Cuttings and In Vitro Cultures

Stefanos Kostas et al.

Summary: This study investigated the morphological traits of seven wild-grown rosemary populations in Greece and focused on the propagation of two selected populations with desirable ornamental characteristics. Shoot cuttings and in vitro cultures were used for propagation, and different conditions and mediums were tested for rooting and shoot formation. The research successfully achieved rosemary plantlets with roots formed in vitro and acclimatized them in a greenhouse environment.

Propagation of Pistacia lentiscus var. Chia Genotypes and Determination of Their Ornamental Traits Combined with a Genetic Analysis Using ISSR Markers

Stefanos Kostas et al.

Summary: Pistacia lentiscus L. is a dioecious shrub with high drought resistance, mainly found in the Mediterranean basin. The study examined the rooting efficiency of shoot cuttings and seed germination ability of ten male and ten female genotypes of P. lentiscus var. Chia from Chios. Genetic analysis using ISSRs revealed differences among the genotypes in propagation methods and genetic distance, with correlations observed between markers, leaf traits, gender, and propagation techniques.

In Vitro Culture of Rosmarinus officinalis L. in a Temporary Immersion System: Influence of Two Phytohormones on Plant Growth and Carnosol Production

Eder Villegas-Sanchez et al.

Summary: This study evaluated an efficient propagation method for obtaining carnosol, a compound with potential antibacterial and antiviral properties, at higher concentrations for pharmacological studies. The use of a temporary immersion system (TIS) and specific growth regulators resulted in a significant increase in carnosol content compared to the wild plant. The developed analytical method for quantifying carnosol also provided valuable insights for its pre-clinical and clinical development.

Souad Mehalaine et al.

Summary: This study investigated the macropropagation and micropropagation of four medicinal plants from the Lamiaceae family growing in Algeria, revealing Salvia officinalis with the highest regeneration success rate (100%) and significant effects of IAA and Kin combinations on callus and shoot proliferation. Significant differences were also found in callus formation rates among the other plants.
