Postoperative delirium after transcatheter aortic valve replacement: An updated systematic review and meta-analysis

Xiaoteng Ma et al.

Summary: This study conducted an updated systematic review and meta-analysis on postoperative delirium (POD) after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). The findings showed that POD is common after TAVR and is associated with an increased risk of mortality. Accurate identification of risk factors for POD after TAVR and implementation of preventive measures are critical to improve prognosis.

Relationship between postoperative biomarkers of neuronal injury and postoperative cognitive dysfunction: A meta-analysis

Xiaohua Wang et al.

Summary: Our objective was to identify neuronal injury-related biomarkers with predictive values for postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD). Six biomarkers were evaluated and S100 beta, NSE, and A beta were found to be potentially predictive of POCD. The levels of these biomarkers may be affected by the postoperative sampling time.

Predicting neurological outcome in adult patients with cardiac arrest: systematic review and meta-analysis of prediction model performance

Simon A. Amacher et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the performance of three prediction models for neurological outcome after cardiac arrest, with two post-arrest scores showing good accuracy and one pre-arrest score showing acceptable accuracy. The findings suggest that the post-arrest scores may support early discussions about treatment goals and planning, while the pre-arrest score may support discussions on code status.

Elevated neuron-specific enolase level is associated with postoperative delirium and detection of phosphorylated neurofilament heavy subunit: A prospective observational study

Kazuhito Mietani et al.

Summary: This study found that elevated levels of neuron-specific enolase and phosphorylated neurofilament heavy subunit are associated with postoperative delirium, indicating their potential use as biomarkers for postoperative delirium.

Delirium in older patients undergoing aortic valve replacement: incidence, predictors, and cognitive prognosis

Marc Humbert et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the incidence, predictors, and relationship with cognitive performance of delirium in older patients undergoing aortic valve replacement surgery. Delirium occurred in about one in five patients, mostly within the first three postoperative days, suggesting the importance of early identification and intervention strategies. Cognitive performance and STS risk scores were found to be associated with delirium incidence in older patients undergoing AVR.
