A Decision-Making Framework for the KC-46A Maintenance Program

Kyle E. Blond et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a Decision-Making Framework to assess the effectiveness of scheduled maintenance tasks for the KC-46A aircraft. The framework serves as the basis for the KC-46A Maintenance Effectiveness Decision Engine (K-MEDE), which aims to inform management decisions regarding reliability, maintainability, and availability. This tool is expected to improve maintenance performance and reduce analysis time, ultimately contributing to the overall success of the KC-46A sustainment enterprise.

Adapting Commercial Best Practices to US Air Force Maintenance Scheduling

Kyle Blond et al.

Summary: This paper presents how IDF's novel maintenance scheduling technique increased aircraft utilization and availability in a sample of USAF's C-5M fleet. By decomposing the Home Station Check (HSC) into smaller work packages and using IDF, improvements were observed in maintenance downtime, sortie count, and flight hours. These improvements serve as a proof-of-concept for the USAF in adapting commercial best practices to address declining aircraft readiness.

Challenges and solutions in condition-based maintenance implementation - A multiple case study

Emilia Ingemarsdotter et al.

Summary: The research aims to understand the challenges related to condition-based maintenance (CBM) implementation in practice and extract solutions applied by companies. A multiple case study at three original equipment manufacturers identifies 19 challenges and 16 solutions which are translated into actionable recommendations. This contributes to the field of CBM by providing a comprehensive view of challenges and solutions from the OEM's perspective.
