Morphology controllable urchin-shaped bimetallic nickel-cobalt oxide/carbon composites with enhanced electromagnetic wave absorption performance

Fushan Li et al.

Summary: By regulating the calcination temperature, different morphologies of urchin-shaped bimetallic nickel-cobalt oxide/carbon (NiCo2O4/C) composites are prepared and their absorption properties are studied. The results show that the composites exhibit excellent absorption performance, mainly due to the interweaving needle-like structures that increase the opportunities for scattering and multiple reflections, the carbon component that enhances interfacial polarization and reduces the density of the absorber, and the generous oxygen vacancy defects that induce defect polarization and dipole polarization.

Flexible polystyrene/graphene composites with epsilon-near-zero properties

Zheng Zhang et al.

Summary: This work focuses on the fabrication and characterization of flexible polystyrene/graphene (PS/GR) composites with epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) properties at radio frequency. The addition of graphene nanosheets in PS matrix led to the formation of a continuous conductive network, resulting in the observation of ENZ behavior at around 920 kHz. This research demonstrates the potential of flexible PS/GR composites in applications such as invisibility cloaks, drug delivery, and soft robotics.

The weakly negative permittivity with low-frequency-dispersion behavior in percolative carbon nanotubes/epoxy nanocomposites at radio-frequency range

Mingxiang Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the frequency dispersion mechanism of negative permittivity in carbon nanotubes (CNTs)/epoxy composites. The Debye model is used to describe the dielectric relaxation when the CNT content is below the percolation threshold, while the Drude model explains the negative permittivity resulting from the plasma oscillation of free electrons in CNT networks above the percolation threshold. A novel Debye-Drude model is proposed to explain the low-frequency dispersion and weakly negative permittivity observed when the CNT content is slightly higher than the percolation threshold.

Liang Meng et al.

Summary: The study investigated the failure mechanisms and processes of bio-inspired corrugated sandwich structures (BCSS) manufactured by laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) under three-point bending using theoretical derivation, experimental, and finite element method (FEM). The results showed that panel buckling is the dominant failure mode, while panel yielding or core buckling is the fatal failure mode for structures whose initial failure mode is panel buckling. Furthermore, the experimental and FEM results were in good agreement with analytical predictions.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of low velocity impact on composite materials containing embedded lithium-ion polymer batteries. The results show that the presence of batteries can enhance the impact energy absorption of the composites, but collisions can reduce the compressive properties of the materials. Low energy impacts have minimal effects on the energy storage capacity of the batteries, while high energy impacts can lead to internal short circuits.
