Evaluating the Influence of Elevated Temperature on Compressive Strength of Date-Palm-Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Using Response Surface Methodology

Musa Adamu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of elevated temperatures on date palm fiber (DPF)-reinforced concrete, where the addition of DPF and silica fume enhanced the heat resistance of the concrete. Compressive and relative strengths of the concrete improved up to 400 degrees C, but a significant decline in strength was observed at 800 degrees C due to the presence of silica fume. The developed models for predicting weight loss and strengths of DPF-reinforced concrete under high temperatures showed a high degree of correlation and predictability, with the optimum mix achieved by adding 1% DPF, replacing 12.14% of the cement with silica fume, and subjecting the concrete to 317 degrees C.
