Improving mechanical properties and shrinkage cracking characteristics of soft clay in deep soil mixing

Thanakorn Chompoorat et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the post-treatment mechanical properties and shrinkage cracking characteristics of soft Bangkok clays treated with ordinary Portland cement and fly ash. The study found that strength and stiffness improvements of stabilised soft clays increased with OPC content but decreased with FA content, while sample shrinkage decreased with increasing FA content. These results suggest that a 15% replacement of OPC with FA can be applied to obtain optimal mixture ratios for deep soil mixing purposes.

Use of a Piezoelectric Bender Element for the Determination of Initial and Final Setting Times of Metakaolin Geopolymer Pastes, with Applications to Laterite Soils

Summary: This study proposes the use of a non-destructive testing technique based on piezoelectric bender element tests to determine the initial and final setting times of metakaolin geopolymer pastes. The optimum processing conditions for metakaolin geopolymer pastes are established through experimentation. The results demonstrate that the proposed method can detect geopolymerization in real-time and show a linear relationship between shear wave velocity and Vicat penetration.

Mechanical and microstructural properties of dredged sediments treated with cement and fly ash for use as road materials

Pitthaya Jamsawang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanical and microstructural properties of dredged sediments treated with ordinary Portland cement (OPC) and fly ash (FA). The results showed that adding FA can improve the mechanical properties of sediments, with the optimal combination being 5% OPC and 10% FA. Microscale analyses were conducted to understand the relationship between sediments and OPC and FA contents.

Swell-shrink behaviour of cement with fly ash-stabilised lakebed sediment

Thanakorn Chompoorat et al.

Summary: The research demonstrated that adding fly ash (FA) to cement-stabilised dredged sediments can improve their mechanical properties and resistance to swelling and shrinkage. Test results of the material mixtures showed that adding an appropriate amount of FA can increase the strength and durability of the stabilized sediments.

Solidification of Sediments Deposited in Reservoirs with Cement and Fly Ash for Road Construction

Thanakorn Chompoorat et al.

Summary: This study explores the stabilisation of dredged lakebed sediments with ordinary portland cement and fly ash for road pavement construction material, establishing correlations between strength and stiffness parameters. The influence of curing period on strength development is determined, with new correlations proposed based on experimental data. Optimised sediment/cement/fly ash mixtures for road construction are reported.

Repurposing of stabilised dredged lakebed sediment in road base construction

Thanakorn Chompoorat et al.

Summary: The research demonstrated that an appropriate content of fly ash can produce the highest material strengths and stiffnesses in stabilized sediments, regardless of the OPC content or curing time. A suitable replacement ratio of cement with fly ash was found to be 15%. The study provided an empirical correlation between the strength and stiffness of adding fly ash on cement-stabilized lakebed sediment for geotechnical and pavement works.

ROLE OF FLY ASH ON STRENGTH PROPERTIES OF REJUVENATED SOIL CEMENT FOR PAVEMENT MATERIALS

Prinya Chindaprasirt et al.

Summary: Stabilization with cement is the most commonly used technique for improving soil properties, and this study focuses on the effects of incorporating fly ash (FA) in recycled soil cement. The research found that FA can significantly enhance the strength and stability of the soil cement, providing promising results for future applications.
