Summary: This paper presents a novel strategy for concrete curing using solar thermal energy storage based on phase change material (PCM), aiming to prevent frost damage to concrete at an early stage and promote rapid concrete strength growth in cold climates. The proposed method utilizes the latent heat of the thermal energy storage layer (TESL) containing PCM to continuously cure the concrete at a positive temperature, with a transparent insulation layer (TIL) to absorb thermal energy through solar radiation. The study also proposes a numerical method for designing the TESL under different climatic conditions, with an optimal thickness ranging from 0.87 cm to 4.86 cm. Experimental results demonstrate that the concrete specimens cured using this strategy achieve excellent temperature history and reach the design strength in just 60 hours. Economic evaluation results show that the proposed curing method is cost-effective and provides significant energy saving and emission reduction throughout the service cycle. This work provides an efficient and clean solution for rapid concrete construction in cold climates.

Summary: Modern AI-assisted approaches have revolutionized our understanding of concrete and composite materials. This study introduces self-supervised learning (SSL) to overcome the limitation of labeled data in concrete material characterization. A generalized SSL-based framework is proposed, which demonstrates its robustness and ability to predict concrete properties with minimal data. The SSL model achieves comparable performance to supervised learning with only 5% of the data, and it is also easy to implement.

Summary: This study quantifies the coupling impacts of multiple factors, including traffic, meteorology, and built environment, on particle distributions at urban neighborhood scales. It reveals that vertical PM concentrations are significantly higher at 9-18 m above ground level. The background concentration, traffic volume, and street morphology are identified as the top three important features. The coupling effects of selected features contribute to 8.9% of PM concentrations. This research provides insights into source identification of particles and improving livability and sustainability in urban residential areas.
