Gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculotomy is an effective surgical treatment for uveitic glaucoma

Avner Belkin et al.

Summary: A retrospective case series study was conducted to assess the efficacy and safety of gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculotomy (GATT) in uveitic glaucoma (UG). The results showed that GATT is an effective surgical strategy for managing UG, with successful reduction of intraocular pressure and no sight-threatening complications during surgery or follow-up.

Outcomes of Partial Versus Complete Goniotomy With or Without Phacoemulsification for Primary Open Angle Glaucoma: A Multicenter Study

Yunhe Song et al.

Summary: Goniotomy (GT) of 120 or 360 degrees effectively lowers intraocular pressure (IOP) and reduces hyphema for patients with primary open angle glaucoma. The surgical outcomes and safety profiles were comparable between these two procedures, with or without cataract surgery.

A Comprehensive Review of Pediatric Glaucoma Following Cataract Surgery and Progress in Treatment

Yu Zhang et al.

Summary: Glaucoma following pediatric cataract surgery is a serious complication. Various risk factors have been reported, but the optimal surgical approach is unclear. This review evaluates the diagnostic criteria, classification, risk factors, mechanism, and surgical management of GFCS, particularly the efficacy of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, and proposes an optimal clinical management strategy for GFCS. The results suggest that ab interno trabeculotomy (goniotomy) may be the most appropriate first-line treatment for GFCS.

Summary: This study compared the clinical outcomes of ab interno microhook trabeculotomy (mu LOT) before and after cataract surgery, and found that performing mu LOT before cataract surgery may reduce the risk of postoperative hyphema with niveau formation.

Management of Childhood Glaucoma Following Cataract Surgery

Anne-Sophie Simons et al.

Summary: Glaucoma remains a frequent complication after cataract surgery in children. This review evaluates different management options for glaucoma following cataract surgery (GFCS) and proposes a clinical management strategy. Medical therapy is the first-line treatment, while surgical procedures such as angle surgery and glaucoma drainage device implantation may be considered. The literature suggests that glaucoma drainage device implantation provides the best long-term intraocular pressure control for childhood GFCS.

Factors Associated With Gonioscopy-Assisted Transluminal Trabeculotomy (GATT) Complications and Failure in Children

Ann V. Quan et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify factors associated with complications and failure of gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculotomy (GATT) in children. The results showed that IOP spikes were a significant risk factor for GATT failure, while postoperative hyphema was a significant risk factor for IOP spikes. The use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may decrease the risk of IOP spikes and failure.

A Prospective Study of Intraocular Pressure Spike and Failure After Gonioscopy-Assisted Transluminal Trabeculotomy in Juvenile Open-Angle Glaucoma

Summary: The study aimed to identify risk factors for surgical failure after GATT in patients with JOAG. The results showed that older age and longer duration of postoperative IOP spike were risk factors for failure. Frequent IOP monitoring during the early postoperative period is needed for these patients.

Tomoki Sato et al.

Summary: Various extents and locations of Schlemm's canal incisions during suture trabeculotomy ab interno for open-angle glaucoma, including 360 degrees, upper-180 degrees, and lower-180 degrees incisions, showed comparable reductions in intraocular pressure and number of medications throughout a 12-month follow-up period, with no significant impact on surgical success rates.

Summary: The study compared surgical outcomes in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma or exfoliation glaucoma after undergoing Schlemm's canal trabeculotomy combined with phacoemulsification with either a 120 degrees or 180 degrees incision. Results indicated no significant differences between the two groups in terms of intraocular pressure reduction, number of IOP-lowering medications, and surgical success rates.
