Preparation and Physical Properties of Stretchable FeRh Films with Periodic Wrinkle Structure

Kai Huang et al.

Summary: In this work, stretchable magnetic films with controllable stretchability and high temperature growth were fabricated by growing metamagnetic FeRh films on mica substrates and transferring them onto prestrained PDMS. The wrinkle pattern formed after releasing the prestrain enables a controllable stretchability of the FeRh films. The meta-magnetic phase transition temperature can be effectively controlled by the prestrain, and the flexible FeRh films maintain stable performance after thousands of stretches.

Quasi-static modulation of multiferroic properties in flexible magnetoelectric Cr2O3/muscovite heteroepitaxy

Yu-Hong Lai et al.

Summary: This study investigates the modulation of magnetic and electric orders in magnetoelectric materials through quasi-static mechanical strain. It is found that mechanical bending can significantly enhance the magnetization of Cr2O3 film and adjust its electric polarization and magnetoelectric coupling. This work provides a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between strain and magnetic and electrical behaviors and opens new possibilities for combining magnetoelectric materials with flexible substrates.

Direct-Write of Nanoscale Domains with Tunable Metamagnetic Order in FeRh Thin Films

Cory D. Cress et al.

Summary: In this work, we demonstrate the direct writing of nanoscale magnetic ordering patterns in FeRh films using focused helium-ion beam irradiation. By characterizing the changes in magnetic order induced by He+ irradiation, as well as quantifying strain- and defect-induced alterations in spin-flip energy, we show promise for the development of in-plane AF-FM spintronic devices. This approach may reduce the complexity of fabrication processes and eliminate interfacial polarization losses in such devices.

Phase domain boundary motion and memristance in gradient-doped FeRh nanopillars induced by spin injection

Rowan C. Temple et al.

Summary: The B2-ordered alloy FeRh undergoes a metamagnetic phase transition at a critical temperature of around 380K, which can be triggered by various means. Research has shown that a phase boundary controlled by a doping gradient in a nano-pillar can be shifted by an electrical current, leading to memristive properties in resistive changes, suggesting potential applications in memory cells or artificial synapses in neuromorphic computing.

Epitaxy, exfoliation, and strain-induced magnetism in rippled Heusler membranes

Dongxue Du et al.

Summary: In this study, researchers demonstrated the epitaxial growth of GdPtSb Heusler compound on graphene-terminated Al2O3 substrates, leading to the formation of freestanding membranes with spontaneous magnetic moment at room temperature. The weak Van der Waals interactions of graphene enabled the successful mechanical exfoliation of the membranes, providing a novel platform for tunable magnetic properties via strain and strain gradients in intermetallic compounds.
