Participatory research with young people with special educational needs and disabilities: a reflective account

Different spokes for different folks: experiences with cycling and the bicycle from the perspective of variably-housed cyclists in Vancouver

Summary: Cycling is often promoted as a sustainable, healthy, and economical mode of transportation. However, existing literature and policies often overlook the situation of homeless individuals who rely on cycling as their primary means of transportation for various reasons, not limited to leisure or commuting. This study, based on in-depth interviews, found that cyclists in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside neighborhood had diverse reasons for cycling, including informal work and personal mobility. They emphasized the value of bicycles for personal mobility and health, but expressed little attachment due to concerns of theft.

Where's the Love? Recentring Indigenous and Feminist Ethics of Care for Engaged Climate Research

Summary: This article argues that the rhetoric of participatory research has become somewhat of a normative and mainstream mantra, often uncritically adopted by pragmatic, post-positivist, and neoliberal researchers. The author emphasizes the political, relational, and ethical dimensions of collaboration and participation, and suggests a repositioning of Participatory Action Research (PAR) within feminist and indigenous ethics of care for a more radical participatory praxis. In reflecting on the frictions and tensions inherent in engaged climate scholarship, the responsibility researchers take on in spaces and times of ecological loss, trauma, and grief is highlighted.
