Modulating the optical and electrical properties of oxygen vacancy-enriched La2Ce2O7:Sm3+ pyrochlore: role of dopant local structure and concentration

Santosh K. Gupta et al.

Summary: This work highlights the important role of defects in achieving efficient luminescence and electrical conduction in pyrochlore materials. By doping with Sm3+, the density of oxygen vacancies is enhanced, leading to improved electrical conduction and luminescence efficiency. The preference of Sm3+ for Ce4+ sites and the formation of Sm-Ce-V-O defect complexes are also demonstrated. The 7.5% Sm3+-doped LCOS sample shows the highest defect density and lowest bulk resistance.

Potential of pyrochlore structure materials in solid oxide fuel cell applications

Anjana P. Anantharaman et al.

Summary: Pyrochlore structure materials have unique crystal structure, electrical properties, and thermal stability, making them widely applicable in catalysis, nuclear waste encapsulation, sensors, and electronic devices. The ionic/electronic conductivity of these materials is crucial for their performance in solid oxide fuel cells, where factors like cation radius ratio, oxygen migration, vacancy formation, and dopant addition play significant roles in enhancing the conductivity. Research has shown that controlling these factors can improve the ion and electron transport properties of pyrochlore materials, ultimately leading to better performance in various applications.
