Converting commercial and industrial property into rented residential accommodation: development of a decision support tool

Summary: This study aims to develop a decision-making tool for assessing the economic feasibility of converting commercial and industrial buildings into rented residential accommodation, as well as providing high-quality rented residential accommodation that contributes to the gentrification of inner city or developed areas. The research used inductive reasoning and a postpositivist philosophical design, and adopted a two-phase waterfall research approach. The study developed a decision support appraisal tool that combines key decision factors and variables for property developers to evaluate the conversion of commercial and industrial property into rented residential accommodation.

Informal means of managing stress were identified, but the persistence of a macho male image hindered open discussions about feelings at work.
