Summary: This study reported a facile strategy for fabricating high-performance PLA composites by adding self-assembled nucleation agent, which achieved a chain-like interlocking shish-kebab crystal structure and resulted in superior mechanical properties and thermal stability. Thus, the super-PLA materials could serve as potential alternatives to commodity and engineering plastics.

Improved mechanical and EMI shielding properties of PLA/PCL composites by controlling distribution of PIL-modified CNTs

Pei Xu et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the functionalization and distribution of conductive fillers, as well as the interfacial compatibilization of polymer blends, in order to improve the electrical conductivity and electromagnetic interference shielding efficiency of composites. By modifying the carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with an ionic liquid copolymer and controlling the blending process, selective localization of CNTs at the interphase and the formation of effective conductive networks at the interface were achieved. This resulted in a significant increase in electrical conductivity and a maximum EMI shielding efficiency of 41 dB for the PLA/PCL/PIL/CNT composites.

Summary: In this study, the PLA/EVA-g-GMA/EVA/CNTs composites were prepared by melt-blended method, and the effects of CNTs on the interfacial morphological evolution and dielectric properties of the composites were investigated. The results showed that the introduction of CNTs slightly decreased the mechanical properties of the materials, but significantly improved the dielectric properties and thermal stability of the composites.
