A novel Harris hawks' optimization and k-fold cross-validation predicting slope stability

Hossein Moayedi et al.

Summary: The study introduced a novel Harris hawks' optimization (HHO) method to enhance the accuracy of the conventional multilayer perceptron technique in predicting the safety factor of slopes with rigid foundations, by adjusting computational weights of conditioning factors. The use of HHO significantly increased the prediction accuracy of ANN for analyzing slopes with unseen conditions, reducing errors and showing higher correlation with actual safety factor values.

Novel approach for predicting groundwater storage loss using machine learning

Zahra Kayhomayoon et al.

Summary: This study utilized Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) methods to estimate groundwater storage loss for 178 major aquifers in Iran. Variables such as agricultural water consumption, aquifer area, river infiltration, and artificial drainage were found to be highly correlated to groundwater storage loss. The Harris Hawks Optimization Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (HHO-ANFIS) and the Least-Squares Support Vector Machine (LS-SVM) were the most effective models for predicting groundwater storage loss.
