Control of the phase evolution of kesterite by tuning of the selenium partial pressure for solar cells with 13.8% certified efficiency

Jiazheng Zhou et al.

Summary: The phase evolution during selenization of CZTSSe is controlled to improve efficiency of solar cells. By applying positive pressure in the reaction chamber, the formation of secondary phases is prevented, resulting in high-crystallinity kesterite films. Solar cells with 13.8% certified efficiency are achieved. This work provides insights into the phase evolution and mechanism of kesterite absorbers.

Elemental de-mixing-induced epitaxial kesterite/CdS interface enabling 13%-efficiency kesterite solar cells

Yuancai Gong et al.

Summary: The efficiency of kesterite solar cells has been stuck at 12.6% since 2013 due to challenges in controlling defects. Now Gong et al. present a low-temperature annealing of the kesterite/CdS junction to form an epitaxial interface with a low defect density, enabling 13%-efficiency devices.

Investigation of Zn/Sn ratio for improving the material quality of CZTS thin films with the reduction of Cu2-xS secondary phase

Wei-Sheng Liu et al.

Summary: A sputtering system was used to prepare high-quality Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) thin films with controlled elemental ratios. Increasing sulfurization temperature led to elevated Cu/(Zn + Sn) and Zn/Sn ratios, resulting in enhanced Cu2-xS secondary phase formation and increased surface roughness and void density on the CZTS thin films. Lowering the sulfurization temperature with reduced Zn/Sn ratio demonstrated improved CZTS thin-film quality with increased XRD and Raman intensity, and reduced FWHM value.

Impact of stacking order and annealing temperature on properties of CZTS thin films and solar cell performance

M. A. Olgar et al.

Summary: In this study, CZTS thin films were synthesized using a two-stage process with different annealing temperatures, resulting in samples with varying crystal structures. Selecting appropriate annealing temperatures can lead to purer crystal structures, showing potential for practical application in solar cells.
