Ultrasonic-Assisted Exfoliation Bulk-Phase of MoS2 with Chitosan/Acetic Acid Solution

Qiang Yao et al.

Summary: Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), as a transition metal dichalcogenide, consists of individual sheets stacked into a bulk-phase structure. Few-layer MoS2, similar to graphene, possesses a two-dimensional nanostructure with a large specific surface area and many unsaturated vacancies, making it promising for applications in the fields of photoelectricity and catalysis. In this study, a simple and practical method using chitosan/acetic acid (CS/HAc) solution was proposed to exfoliate bulk-phase MoS2. The method offers a new idea and approach for peeling treatment of other laminated materials and shows great potential for applications in optical and electrical fields.

DFT calculations of double vacancies MoS2 catalyzing water gas shift reaction: S vacancies as electron bridge promote electron transfer to H2O and CO molecules

Yue Du et al.

Summary: The poor activity of MoS2 basal plane limits efficient hydrogen production. Single and double sulfur vacancy MoS2 (VS-MoS2 and VS, S-MoS2) were used for water gas shift reaction (WGSR). The adsorption energy of VS, S-MoS2 for CO molecule is significantly higher than that of original MoS2 and VS, S-MoS2. The energy barrier of the rate-determining step in the association mechanism of VS, S-MoS2 is lower than pristine MoS2. S vacancies serve as active sites for CO and H2O adsorption and facilitate electron transfer.

Active phase morphology engineering of NiMo/Al2O3 through La introduction for boosting hydrodesulfurization of 4,6-DMDBT

Ji-Xing Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a mesoporous LaAlOx catalyst was designed and constructed through a solvent evaporation-induced self-assembly method. The structure and physicochemical properties of the NiMo supported catalyst were characterized, and its catalytic activity for hydrodesulfurization (HDS) was investigated. The incorporation of La was found to significantly enhance the generation of Type II NiMoS phase, leading to improved HDS performance by promoting sulfidation and modifying the morphology of Ni promoted MoS2 slabs. This finding contributes to the understanding of structure-activity relationships in ultra-deep desulfurization and inspires the development of highly-efficient HDS catalysts in the future.

A combined experimental and DFT study on the catalysis performance of a Co-doped MoS2 monolayer for hydrodesulfurization reaction

Xinlin Zhang et al.

Summary: In this work, Co-doped MoS2 catalysts were prepared through chemical exfoliation and hydrothermal methods. The effects of isolated Co doping on the catalytic performances of MoS2 were investigated using periodic density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The results showed that the prepared catalyst exhibited higher catalytic activity and could be used at lower temperatures, due to the changes in electronic structure caused by Co atom doping. This work provides a new path for improving HDS catalytic activity through synergistic structure and charge characteristics.

Regulating MoS2 edge site for photocatalytic nitrogen fixation: A theoretical and experimental study

Biao Hu et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the active sites on MoS2 for N-2 adsorption and dissociation are mainly located on Mo rather than S edge, and Mn doping can enhance the exposure of Mo edge sites. Injection of electrons promotes the reduction of N-2, leading to a higher ammonia production rate in Mn-modified MoS2 photocatalysts without sacrificial agent.

Single Atom Ruthenium-Doped CoP/CDs Nanosheets via Splicing of Carbon-Dots for Robust Hydrogen Production

Haoqiang Song et al.

Summary: This study introduces a composite material design with CoP nanoparticles doped with Ru single-atom sites supported on carbon dots (CDs) single-layer nanosheets, forming Ru1CoP/CDs. The catalyst shows high efficiency for the hydrogen evolution reaction over a wide pH range and excellent stability and activity. Through density functional theory calculations, it was revealed that the substituted Ru single atoms enhance catalytic performance by lowering the proton-coupled electron transfer energy barrier and promoting H-H bond formation. This research presents a new approach for developing carbon-based hybridization materials with integrated electrocatalytic performance for water splitting.

Single-atom Pt promotion of industrial Co-Mo-S catalysts for ultra-deep hydrodesulfurization

Christian Frederik Weise et al.

Summary: The Pt-Co-Mo-S catalyst contains mainly single-layer MoS2 nanocrystals with Co atoms fully covering the S-edge terminations, and Pt atoms uniquely attached to corner and edge sites in a platinum(IV) sulfide-like structural motif. Platinum is suggested to reduce the sulfur binding energy and increase the abundance of coordinately undersaturated sites (CUS) without necessarily changing the reactivity towards 4,6-DMDBT molecules, although further studies are needed for a detailed understanding.
