Edge-Site-Enriched Ti3C2TX MXene/MoS2 Nanosheet Heterostructures for Self-Powered Breath and Environmental Monitoring

Sagar Sardana et al.

Summary: In this study, an architecture of an ammonia monitoring system is proposed, which can be used for real-time breath sampling and environmental gas sensing. The system utilizes a MXene/MoS2 nanosheet heterostructure as both a sensing material and an active layer of a hybrid tribo-/piezonanogenerator, allowing for self-powered monitoring of NH3. The sensor exhibits high selectivity, reversibility, and sensitivity to NH3 gas and the H-TPNG generates triboelectric and piezoelectric power densities through mechanical tapping and bending motions. Overall, this research presents a self-powered NH3 monitoring system that can be integrated into wearable monitors for healthcare applications.

Two-dimensional black phosphorus/tin oxide heterojunctions for high-performance chemiresistive H2S sensing

Yong Zhou et al.

Summary: Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) emission and decomposition of sulfur-containing organic matter have a significant impact on human health and the environment. To address this issue, researchers developed a H2S sensor using two-dimensional tin oxide (SnO2) nanosheets decorated with thin black phosphorus (BP) as the sensing layer. The BP-SnO2 sensor demonstrated higher sensitivity, lower operating temperature, faster response/recovery speeds, and better stability compared to pure SnO2 sensors. This study highlights the potential of BP nanosheets in gas sensing and provides a new strategy for trace H2S sensing.

Interdigitated electrodes-based Au-MoS2 hybrid gas sensor for sensing toxic CO and NH3 gases at room temperature

Saurabh Rawat et al.

Summary: In the quest for effective sensors that operate at room temperature, molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) and MoS2-based hybrids have emerged as potent materials. This study describes the fabrication of Au-MoS2 hybrid gas sensors for detecting harmful CO and NH3 gases at room temperature. It is observed that by varying the size of Au nanoparticles, the crystallinity gets modified, resulting in enhanced sensing response. The Au-MoS2 hybrid shows a significant improvement in sensing response compared to bare MoS2, allowing for the development of efficient gas sensors that respond quickly to changes in the gas around them.

An improved strategy of passive micro direct methanol fuel cell: Mass transport mechanism optimization dominated by a single hydrophilic layer

Rongji Zhang et al.

Summary: Mass transport behaviors, such as methanol and gas-liquid two-phase mass transport, are crucial in passive micro direct methanol fuel cells (mu DMFCs). However, these behaviors are hindered by issues like methanol crossover and mass transport obstruction, leading to reduced performance and limited application of passive mu DMFCs. To address this, an improved multisubstance mass transport mechanism dominated by water mass transport is proposed, which includes a hydrophilic mass transport layer (MTL). Theoretical analysis shows that the proposed mechanism outperforms the conventional one, resulting in improved cell performance. Applying this mechanism to real scenes, hybrid nanomaterials are used to construct the MTL, greatly enhancing the performance of mu DMFCs. The novel mu DMFCs achieve nearly twice the power density and about 6.2 times the energy density under high-concentration methanol fuel. This comprehensive study on the mass transport mechanism of passive mu DMFCs aims to provide theoretical reference and practical experience for promoting their wide application.
