Optimization of Pt nanoparticles loading in ZnO for highly selective and stable hydrogen gas sensor at reduced working temperature

Sanjay Kumar et al.

Summary: The aim of this research is to develop a highly selective and stable H2 gas sensor using pure ZnO and Pt nanoparticles loaded ZnO pencil-like micro-structures. The microstructures were synthesized using the hydrothermal route and characterized using various techniques. The hydrogen sensing properties were examined, and the optimal concentration of 1 at% Pt loaded ZnO microstructures showed a highly selective response at a reduced working temperature of 150 degrees Celsius.

ZnO Nanorod-Immobilized Pt Single-Atoms as an Ultrasensitive Sensor for Triethylamine Detection

Lingyue Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a ZnO nanorod anchored with a single-atom Pt catalyst (Pt1/ZnO) was developed as a gas sensor for detecting triethylamine (TEA). The Pt1/ZnO sensor exhibited high selectivity and response to TEA gas, with a response value 92 times higher than pure ZnO. The enhanced sensing performance was attributed to the activation of adsorbed oxygen on Pt1/ZnO and the effective adsorption and activation of TEA by Pt single atoms. This work highlights the crucial role of Pt single-atom in improving the sensing performance and opens up possibilities for advanced gas sensors.

Facile synthesis of Pt catalysts functionalized porous ZnO nanowires with enhanced gas-sensing properties

Wei Liu et al.

Summary: Low temperature and high sensitivity are important for gas sensors, but they are usually contradictory. In this study, ZnO porous nanowires doped with Pt nanoparticles were prepared and their gas-sensing performance for acetone was investigated. The results showed that the Pt-ZnO PNWs exhibited improved response and lower detection limit compared to pristine ZnO PNWs, making them a potential breath analyzer.

Thermally Stable AgPd@ZnO Bimetallic Alloy Nanoparticles for Ethanol Sensors with Long-Term Stability

Mohammad Jamir Ahemad et al.

Summary: In this study, thermally stable ZnO-supported AgPd bimetallic alloy core-shell nanoparticles were synthesized, which showed excellent gas sensing performance, including selectivity, anti-interfering response, repeatability, etc. The improved electronic structure, as a result of lattice mismatch, upshifts in the d-band center, and oxidation resistance behavior of AgPd alloy, enhanced the catalytic properties and gas sensing performances in AgPd alloy@ZnO nanoparticles.

Facile synthesis of Pd@ZnO core@shell nanoparticles for selective ethanol detection

Sonalika Agarwal et al.

Summary: This study reported a high-performance ethanol gas sensor based on Pd@ZnO core@shell nanoparticles, showing high sensitivity and selectivity towards ethanol. The response value of Pd@ZnO CSNPs at 250 degrees C is almost six times higher than ZnO NPs, possibly due to the sensitization effect of Pd NPs and the unique core@shell structure.

Gas sensing behavior of ZnO toward H2 at temperatures below 300°C and its dependence on humidity and Pt-decoration

I-Kai Cheng et al.

Summary: The sensing reaction mechanism of ZnO towards H-2 was investigated, showing distinct response features at temperatures above 150 degrees C. Humidity affects sensor performance, while Pt decoration greatly improves sensor performance in both dry and humid environments. This improvement is attributed to hydrogen spillover from Pt nanoparticles to the ZnO support.

An efficient hydrogen gas sensor based on hierarchical Ag/ZnO hollow microstructures

Sonalika Agarwal et al.

Summary: The design of hierarchical zinc oxide (ZnO) microstructures modified with silver (Ag) nanoparticles has been proven effective in enhancing hydrogen gas sensing performance. The Ag/ZnO hollow microstructures showed superior sensitivity, fast response and recovery time, as well as good stability, even at low hydrogen gas concentrations. This enhancement in sensing performance is attributed to the chemical and electronic sensitization effect of Ag nanoparticles, leading to a more sensitive sensor with improved selectivity.

Plasma-induced oxygen vacancies enabled ultrathin ZnO films for highly sensitive detection of triethylamine

Zishuo Li et al.

Summary: This study presents a high-performance gas sensor based on plasma-etched zinc oxide thin films, with a thickness of 20 nm deposited on SiO2 wafers by ALD. The zinc oxide sensor exhibits n-type conductivity and sensitivity to triethylamine, with the sensor response affected by annealing temperature. Ar plasma treatment results in improved sensor performance by generating oxygen vacancies.
