Quantification of Total Phenolic, Anthocyanin, and Flavonoid Content in a Diverse Panel of Blueberry Cultivars and Ecotypes

Giovani Rossi et al.

Summary: Blueberries are an important fruit crop that contains abundant specialized metabolites with known human health benefits. Phenolic compounds, particularly flavonoids and anthocyanins, contribute to fruit flavor and quality, and have health-promoting properties. Previous studies have shown variability in phenolic compounds concentration in blueberries, which is influenced by environmental factors and cultivars. This study expands the knowledge by surveying the phenolic, flavonoid, and anthocyanin content in 71 blueberry cultivars, revealing their diversity and potential breeding for enhanced health benefits.
