Modelling changes in glass transition temperature in polymer matrices exposed to low molecular weight penetrants

Antonio Baldanza et al.

Summary: This study investigates the depression of glass transition temperature (T-g) in polymer matrices when in contact with low molecular weight compounds. The mechanical action of compressive stress exerted by the pressure of the fluid phase also affects T-g. A modeling approach based on the Gibbs-Di Marzio criterion is proposed to predict rubbery-glassy states maps of polymer-penetrant mixtures. The configurational entropy is modeled using the Non-Random Hydrogen Bond lattice fluid theory.

A comprehensive theoretical framework for the sub and supercritical sorption and transport of CO2 in polymers

Eleonora Ricci et al.

Summary: By modeling, the complex interactions between high pressure, supercritical CO2 and two polymers, Matrimid and PDMS, were thoroughly understood and simulated. The model provides a detailed representation of the complexity of CO2 sorption and permeation, and effectively separates the kinetic and thermodynamic contributions to the transport phenomena.

Solubility and diffusivity of CO2 and N2 in polymers and polymer swelling, glass transition, melting, and crystallization at high pressure: A critical review and perspectives on experimental methods, data, and modeling

Erdogan Kiran et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the literature data on the solubility and diffusivity of CO2 and N-2, as well as swelling of polymers in these fluids. It also discusses the experimental methods and modeling used in this field. The effectiveness of the Sanchez-Lacombe equation of state in modeling solubility, swelling, and the glass transition temperature is presented. Additionally, the use of Fick's law in describing the sorption dynamics of carbon dioxide and nitrogen in polymer + gas systems is discussed.

A model to predict the solubility and permeability of gaseous penetrant in the glassy polymeric membrane at high pressure

Sina Nabati Shoghl et al.

Summary: The study investigated the transport properties of gaseous penetrant through dense glassy polymeric membranes using a developed model that predicts gas permeability and solubility based on sorption and diffusion processes. The model was able to accurately predict experimental data, showing that increasing feed gas temperature enhances gas permeability while decreasing gas solubility in the membranes.

Analysis of the retrograde behavior in PMMA-CO2 systems by measuring the (effective) glass transition temperature using refractive index variations

D. Cuadra Rodriguez et al.

Summary: The physical behavior of the PMMA-CO2 system was studied in a wide range of temperatures and pressures, with a new optical observation methodology used to determine the glass transition temperature. Differences in behavior were found for three different grades of PMMA, including in the low pressure-temperature region critical for advanced foaming approaches and manufacturing processes at low temperatures.
