The Measurement and Communication of Effect Sizes in Management Research

Carl F. Fey et al.

Summary: This article emphasizes the importance of measuring and communicating the effect size of an independent variable on a dependent variable in the Social Sciences. It proposes methods to extend traditional evaluation approaches in multivariate models and provides guidance on reporting and interpreting effect sizes.

Effects of limb apraxia intervention in patients with stroke: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Eun Kyu Ji et al.

Summary: The effectiveness of limb apraxia interventions in reducing its severity and improving activities of daily living (ADL) was assessed through a meta-analysis of five randomized controlled trials. Gesture and strategy training were found to have statistically significant effects on ADL.

Limb Apraxias: The Influence of Higher Order Perceptual and Semantic Deficits in Motor Recovery After Stroke

Elisabeth Rounis et al.

Summary: Stroke is a major cause of disability worldwide, and limb apraxia is a group of motor disorders associated with greater disability and dependence after stroke. In this review, a hierarchical organization of limb apraxia is proposed, distinguishing several visuomotor pathways that lead to purposeful actions. Further studies are needed to stratify patients using modern neurophysiology and neuroimaging techniques to provide targeted and personalized therapies for these disorders in the future.

The social cognitive dimension of pantomime

Francois Osiurak et al.

Summary: Through kinematic analyses, researchers found that the exaggeration of amplitude during pantomime is related to social cognitive processes, but not necessary. This suggests that the communicative function of pantomime is more important than cognitive processes.

Action imitation via trajectory-based or posture-based planning

Erica M. Barhorst-Cates et al.

Summary: This study investigates the difference between posture matching and trajectory imitation and examines whether they can be interchangeably used in imitation tasks. The results show that when imitating trajectories, there is a processing cost when performing posture-matching tasks, leading to less consistency in movement. However, this effect is not observed when imitating limb postures. These findings suggest the existence of two computationally distinct imitation mechanisms.

Stroke self-management and the role of self-efficacy

Melissa Nott et al.

Summary: This study examined the impact of a 12-week stroke self-management program on occupational performance and satisfaction, finding significant improvements in both areas. Self-efficacy was identified as a key mediator for these improvements. Thematic analysis revealed barriers and facilitators related to transitioning home, returning to normal activities, and reflecting on shared experiences.

Effect of body-part specificity and meaning in gesture imitation in left hemisphere stroke patients

Alessia Tessari et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the differences in imitation performance between finger and hand/arm gestures among left-brain damaged patients, with or without apraxia, as well as healthy controls. Results showed that left-brain damaged patients imitated meaningless finger movements worse than hand/arm movements, while apraxic patients had difficulties imitating finger movements compared to hand/arm movements. Additionally, apraxic patients' imitation performance was equally affected regardless of the action meaning, unlike non-apraxic patients who performed better on meaningful gestures.

Gesture errors in left and right hemisphere damaged patients: A behavioural and anatomical study

Michele Scandola et al.

Summary: Erroneous gesture execution is a key factor in motor cognition difficulties in apraxia. This study aimed to identify error categories that differentiate apraxic from non-apraxic patients. The findings suggest that bucco-facial and mixed apraxic patients make different types of errors in different types of actions, and not all errors are equally indicative of apraxia, with various error categories associated with different neural correlates.

Self-Efficacy Is a Modifiable Factor Associated with Frailty in Those with Minor Stroke: Secondary Analysis of 200 Cohort Respondents

Abodunrin Quadri Aminu et al.

Summary: This study focused on the relationship between self-efficacy and frailty among stroke survivors, and found a significant association between self-efficacy and frailty, with low self-efficacy individuals having higher frailty scores at baseline and follow-up. Therefore, self-efficacy may impact the progression of frailty among stroke survivors.
