Cognitive Reserve and Mild Cognitive Impairment Predictors and Rates of Reversion to Intact Cognition vs Progression to Dementia

Maryam Iraniparast et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effect of education and indicators of cognitive reserve on the rate of reversion from MCI to normal cognition or progression to dementia. The results showed that higher education levels were associated with a higher rate ratio of reversion vs progression. Novel cognitive reserve indicators were also significantly associated with a higher rate ratio of reversion vs progression.

Factors Influencing the Development of Mild Cognitive Impairment in Community-Dwelling People Aged 75 Years and Older

Akio Goda et al.

Summary: This study in Asia, including Japan, focused on detecting mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and preventing its onset in older adults over 75 years. The results suggest that physical and psychological status, along with certain measures of physical functions and body composition, can serve as screening indicators for detecting MCI in this population. Education history, medical visits due to hypertension, and balance abilities were highlighted as potential risk factors for MCI.

An Association between Lower Extremity Function and Cognitive Frailty: A Sample Population from the KFACS Study

Gwon-Min Kim et al.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between physical function, lipid profile, and cognitive frailty in community-dwelling Korean older adults. The 6-minute Walk Test, Timed Up and Go test, and Five Times Sit-to-Stand test were found to be closely related to cognitive frailty and could potentially serve as prognostic markers.

Relationship Between Physical Performance and Mild Cognitive Impairment in Chinese Community-Dwelling Older Adults

Yuewen Liu et al.

Summary: The study examined the relationship between physical performance and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in Chinese older adults. Grip strength and walking speed were negatively correlated with MCI, while the Timed Up and Go Test (TUGT) was positively correlated. Grip strength was associated with overall cognition, time orientation, recall, and language, while TUGT and walking speed were associated with overall cognition and various cognitive domains, except recall.

ZiHan Bu et al.

Summary: The systematic review and meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies demonstrated that cognitively frail older adults have a higher risk of all-cause mortality and dementia compared to robust older adults. The assessment tools used were identified as the main source of heterogeneity in the subgroup analysis.
