Search for a meteoritic component within the impact melt rocks of the Chicxulub impact structure peak ring, Mexico

Jean-Guillaume Feignon et al.

Summary: Constraining the preservation degree of a meteoritic signature within an impact structure provides important insights into the complex pathways and processes that occur during and after an impact cratering event, revealing information about the fate of the projectile. A study on drill core samples from the Chicxulub impact structure revealed that the highly siderophile element (HSE) data in impact melt rocks are limited, with most samples containing only a small amount of chondritic component. The impact event has made it challenging to identify extraterrestrial admixture due to the influence of various factors.

New insights into the formation and emplacement of impact melt rocks within the Chicxulub impact structure, following the 2016 IODP-ICDP Expedition 364

Sietze J. de Graaff et al.

Summary: This study characterizes the petrography and geochemistry of rocks and impactites from the Chicxulub impact structure in Mexico, aiming to investigate the components involved in impact melt formation and the emplacement processes at Chicxulub. The different impactite units are interpreted as different stages of impact melt rock injection and surface deposition during crater formation. The geochemical characterization of pre-impact lithologies provides insights into the composition of the impact melt rock units.

Magnetic granulometry, Mo?ssbauer spectroscopy, and theoretical modeling of magnetic states of FemOn-Fem-xTixOn composites

Petr Kharitonskii et al.

Summary: FemOn-Fem-xTixOn composites, complex iron oxides doped with titanium, were synthesized by coprecipitation or precipitation methods. The study found the presence of chemically inhomogeneous strongly magnetic particles, weakly magnetic particles, and superparamagnetic particles in the samples. The Cp series samples had magnetically stable particles dominating, while the P series samples were dominated by superparamagnetic particles.

Magnetic granulometry, frequency-dependent susceptibility and magnetic states of particles of magnetite ore from the Kovdor deposit

Petr Kharitonskii et al.

Summary: The structural, frequency and magnetic properties of magnetite ores from the Kovdor deposit in Northwest Russia were investigated. The study revealed the presence of non-stoichiometric magnetite as a major constituent of the ore, and showed that even small concentrations of superparamagnetic grains can modify the electromagnetic response of the samples.

Influence of the Structure of the Glasses from the BaO-La2O3-B2O3-ZrO2-TiO2-SiO2-Nb2O5 System on Their Thermal Expansion and Technological Characteristics

M. Dyadenko et al.

Summary: The crystallization ability and thermal linear expansion coefficient of glasses in the BaO-La2O3-B2O3-ZrO2-TiO2-SiO2-Nb2O5 system, designed for the production of a light-guiding core for a rigid optical fiber, were studied. The nature of the glasses during production was determined using transmission electron microscopy. X-ray phase analysis identified the main crystalline phases that form during heat treatment of the glass samples. Glasses with minimal tendency to crystallization were determined based on their composition. The effect of the chemical composition of the glasses on their structure was established using infrared spectroscopy.

Gabbro-Basalt Raw Materials of Russia: Mineral Composition, Modification Methods, and Complex Use

V. A. Krenev et al.

Summary: This research aimed at using igneous rocks from Russian deposits to produce advanced materials. New methods were proposed for calculating the mineral composition of gabbro-basalt rocks and modifying their chemical and mineral compositions. Various advanced materials, such as stone ceramics, protective anticorrosion coatings, and friction materials, were successfully prepared based on crushed basalt and chopped continuous fibers. Additionally, the research laid the physicochemical foundation for the complex processing of gabbro-basalt raw materials.
