Postharvest storage properties and quality kinetic models of cherry tomatoes treated by high-voltage electrostatic fields

Summary: This study investigated the effects of high-voltage electrostatic field (HVEF) treatment time on the quality characteristics of cherry tomatoes during storage. The results showed that HVEF treatment reduced weight loss and color change, and improved hardness, Vitamin C content, antioxidant capacity, and microbial loads of cherry tomatoes. The zero-order reaction model and modified Gompertz equation were used to describe the changes in physicochemical indices and microbial growth in treated cherry tomatoes.

RAP2.6 enhanced salt stress tolerance by reducing Na plus accumulation and stabilizing the electron transport in Arabidopsis thaliana

Summary: In this study, a transcription factor called RAP2.6 was found to play an important role in the growth and response to salt stress in Arabidopsis. The mutant seedlings of RAP2.6 showed lower sensitivity to salt stress, with higher germination rate and longer root length. Moreover, the mutant plants exhibited higher accumulation of Na+ and lower expression of salt-related genes compared to the wild type.

Use of hydrogen peroxide in acclimatization of melon to salinity of irrigation water

Influence of Foliar Application of Hydrogen Peroxide on Gas Exchange, Photochemical Efficiency, and Growth of Soursop under Salt Stress

Summary: This study aimed to assess the effects of saline water irrigation and foliar hydrogen peroxide application on the gas exchange, quantum yield, and development of soursop plants. The results showed that high electrical conductivity of irrigation water inhibited stomatal conductance, internal CO2 concentration, transpiration, maximum fluorescence, crown height, and vegetative vigor index of the plants. However, applying hydrogen peroxide at a concentration of 30 μM resulted in increased stomatal conductance.

Summary: Soy whey, a byproduct of tofu processing, has been found to have potential as a substitute nitrogen source for fertilizers in agricultural production. This study examined the effects of soy whey on soil NH3 volatilization, dissolved organic matter components, and cherry tomato qualities. The results showed that soy whey could increase the abundance of beneficial bacteria, improve soil organic matter content, and enhance tomato quality while reducing ammonia volatilization and fertilization costs.

Production and Fiber Characteristics of Colored Cotton Cultivares under Salt Stress and H2O2

Summary: Salt stress reduces the yield and quality of colored fiber cotton production, but this problem can be mitigated by the foliar application of hydrogen peroxide in adequate concentrations. In this study, the production and characteristics of naturally colored cotton cultivares were evaluated under irrigation with low- and high-salinity water and leaf application of hydrogen peroxide. The results showed that irrigation with water of 0.8 dS m(-1) associated with a foliar application of 75 mu M of hydrogen peroxide favored the lint and seed weight, strength, micronaire index, and maturity of 'BRS Topazio'. The 'BRS Rubi' cotton cultivar showed higher tolerance to salinity, followed by the 'BRS Topazio' and 'BRS Verde' cultivares regarding the yield of seed cotton weight, with reduction below 20% under water of 5.3 dS m(-1).

Foliar Application of Salicylic Acid Mitigates Saline Stress on Physiology, Production, and Post-Harvest Quality of Hydroponic Japanese Cucumber

Summary: Salicylic acid (SA) can induce physiological and metabolic changes in plants, enhancing their tolerance to saline stress and enabling the use of saline water in semi-arid regions. This study evaluated the impact of foliar application of SA on mitigating salt stress effects on Japanese cucumber in a hydroponic system. Results showed that foliar application of SA at concentrations between 1.4 and 2.0 mM reduced the detrimental effects of saline stress and improved cucumber fruit production and post-harvest quality.

However, concerns about the environmental impact and safety of ENPs in agriculture need to be addressed. Further research is needed to evaluate the fate and transport of ENPs and their potential toxicity to non-target organisms.

Physiology and production of cherry tomato cultivars in a hydroponic system using brackish water

Increasing nutrient solution salinity negatively affected gas exchange, electrolyte leakage, and photosynthetic pigments of the cherry tomato cultivars, especially with prolonged stress. The photosynthetic system was efficient up to 4.0 dS m(-1), beyond which there was photoinhibition or photodamage in the cherry tomato plants. The cherry tomato cultivars Samambaia and Caroline were more adapted to brackish solutions, while Tomate Vermelho was the most susceptible.
