Agricultural Robot under Solar Panels for Sowing, Pruning, and Harvesting in a Synecoculture Environment

Takuya Otani et al.

Summary: Currently, the agricultural method of Synecoculture (TM) is gaining attention for its ability to produce multiple crops and restore the environment. To improve efficiency in this method, a robot has been developed that can sow, prune, and harvest in dense and diverse vegetation that grows under solar panels. The robot has a four-wheel mechanism for uneven terrains and a two orthogonal axes mechanism for adjusting tool positioning. In field experiments, the robot successfully maneuvered on slopes, overcame obstacles, and performed harvesting and weeding tasks.

Applicability of Variable-Rate Nitrogen Top Dressing Based on Measurement of the Within-Field Variability of Soil Nutrients for Cabbage Production

Yuka Nakano et al.

Summary: In order to improve the efficiency of nitrogen fertilization, rapid direct measurements in the field were performed instead of time-consuming laboratory-based chemical analysis. Crop and soil data from two fall cultivations of cabbage were used to evaluate crop indicators, such as chlorophyll meter value, height, and projected leaf area. A WCR with a 12 cm-long rod was selected as the soil indicator, and a diagnostic method was verified using different amounts of N basal fertilizer. The proposed method showed suitability for soil N management.

Remote Data Acquisition Using UAVs and Custom Sensor Node Technology

Agustin Bernier-Vega et al.

Summary: Precision agriculture technology has advanced rapidly, but the majority of US farmers do not use it due to high costs, lack of connectivity, and complex setup. This project aimed to create a low-cost, energy-efficient data collection system using a UAV as a mobile sink node. Custom sensor nodes and a drone-mounted wireless receiver were designed and manufactured. The system successfully collected soil data and has potential applications, with room for expansion and improvement.

Multi-source pseudo-label learning of semantic segmentation for the scene recognition of agricultural mobile robots

Shigemichi Matsuzaki et al.

Summary: This paper describes a novel method of training a semantic segmentation model for scene recognition of agricultural mobile robots using multiple publicly available datasets. The proposed method leverages pre-trained models from each source dataset to generate pseudo-labels for the target images and allows for knowledge transfer from multiple sources. Existing state-of-the-art methods are also introduced to suppress the effect of noise in the pseudo-labels and improve performance.
