Perioperative risk and antiplatelet management in patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery within 1 year of PCI

Davide Cao et al.

Summary: Perioperative cardiovascular complications following non-cardiac surgery are closely related to the surgical risk and urgency of the procedure, particularly in patients with recent PCI. Early post-PCI surgeries, especially high-risk and urgent/emergent ones, are associated with a higher risk of both cardiac events and bleeding complications. Preoperative interruption of antiplatelet therapy did not increase the risk of adverse cardiac events.

Summary: This study found that early initiation of short-term DAPT following high-risk transient ischemic attack or mild-moderate ischemic stroke can reduce the risk of recurrent stroke while increasing the risk of major bleeding.

Post Operative Complications Associated with Preoperative use of Clopidogrel in Patients Undergoning Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery

Muhammad Shahid et al.

Summary: The study aimed to compare hospital complications in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery who continued dual antiplatelets therapy (DAPT) until 48 hours prior to surgery with those who continued it until 48 to 120 hours before surgery. The results showed no significant difference in terms of chest tube output, blood transfusions, blood or products transfusions, and need for re-exploration between the two groups.
