Small-molecule-mediated OGG1 inhibition attenuates pulmonary inflammation and lung fibrosis in a murine lung fibrosis model

L. Tanner et al.

Summary: This study describes the use of a small molecule OGG1 inhibitor, TH5487, as a potential treatment for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The findings suggest that TH5487 can decrease fibroblast transition, pro-fibrotic gene expressions, and inflammation in lung fibrosis. However, further studies are needed to determine its efficacy in human trials.

LncRNA TUG1 promotes pulmonary fibrosis progression via up-regulating CDC27 and activating PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway

Fei Qi et al.

Summary: This study aimed to elucidate the function and potential mechanisms of TUG1 in IPF progression. The results showed that TUG1 played a role in promoting fibrosis and inflammation in IPF, and it also activated the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway and induced autophagy to suppress pulmonary fibrosis.

CEMIP (HYBID, KIAA1199): structure, function and expression in health and disease

Sofia Spataro et al.

Summary: CEMIP, also known as KIAA1199 or HYBID, is a protein involved in the depolymerization of hyaluronic acid and has been shown to play a key role in tumor progression and various inflammatory diseases. Despite its association with these diseases, the biology of CEMIP remains elusive. This review article summarizes the scientific evidence regarding its structure, function, and expression, aiming to shed light on the protein's role in inflammation-related conditions.

Immune dysregulation as a driver of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis

Kevin Shenderov et al.

Summary: IPF is a debilitating disease with limited treatment options, with lung transplantation being the only cure. Recent research has highlighted immune dysregulation as a key factor in the pathophysiology of the disease, suggesting that a better understanding of the immune system's role in IPF may lead to the development of targeted therapies.

TGF-β1: Gentlemanly orchestrator in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (Review)

Zhimin Ye et al.

Summary: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a global disease with no effective treatment currently available. Research shows that transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-beta 1) plays a crucial role in the development of IPF, promoting fibrosis through various signaling pathways and affecting oxidative stress and epigenetics. Although most processes related to TGF-beta 1 promote IPF, it can also inhibit its development.

Biomarkers in Progressive Fibrosing Interstitial Lung Disease: Optimizing Diagnosis, Prognosis, and Treatment Response

Willis S. Bowman et al.

Summary: Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is a group of diverse lung disorders that can lead to irreversible pulmonary fibrosis. While idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a common subtype, other ILD patients may develop a progressive fibrosing phenotype. Biomarker investigation has identified molecular markers that can predict disease endpoints, suggesting potential for biomarker implementation in ILD management.

Micellar Hyaluronidase and Spiperone as a Potential Treatment for Pulmonary Fibrosis

Evgenii Skurikhin et al.

Summary: In patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, the concentration of hyaluronic acid in the lungs increases, which can be broken down by hyaluronidase. The conjugate pHD effectively reduces fibrosis levels and when combined with spiperone, enhances anti-inflammatory and antifibrotic effects.
