SiC Foams for the Photocatalytic Degradation of Methylene Blue under Visible Light Irradiation

Karla Begonia Cervantes-Diaz et al.

Summary: SiC foams were synthesized from preceramic polymers impregnated into polyurethane foam templates, exhibiting photocatalytic activity for the degradation of methylene blue. The SiC foams were characterized for their crystal structure, electronic properties, and photocatalytic performance using various experimental techniques. The prepared SiC-based photocatalyst showed promising activity under visible light irradiation, making it a potential candidate for the treatment of contaminated waste waters in ambient conditions as a catalytic contactor or membrane reactor.

S-scheme MIL-101(Fe) octahedrons modified Bi2WO6 microspheres for photocatalytic decontamination of Cr(VI) and tetracycline hydrochloride: Synergistic insights, reaction pathways, and toxicity analysis

Shijie Li et al.

Summary: Solar-driven elimination of refractory contaminants is an ideal approach for environmental remediation. However, the photocatalytic performance of photocatalysts is limited by insufficient reactive sites and fast recombination of electrons and holes. In this study, a novel metal-organic framework-based heterostructure of MIL-101(Fe)/Bi2WO6 was synthesized, which exhibited significantly enhanced photoactivity for Cr(VI) reduction and tetracycline hydrochloride oxidation compared to individual Bi2WO6 and MIL-101(Fe). The improved catalytic performance can be attributed to the enlarged surface area and pollutant adsorption facilitated by MIL-101(Fe), as well as the efficient photo-carrier transport mechanism supported by oxygen vacancies.

Ta3N5/CdS Core-Shell S-scheme Heterojunction Nanofibers for Efficient Photocatalytic Removal of Antibiotic Tetracycline and Cr(VI): Performance and Mechanism Insights

Shijie Li et al.

Summary: Ta3N5/CdS core-shell S-scheme heterojunction nanofibers were prepared by growing CdS nanodots on Ta3N5 nanofibers via a wet-chemical method. These nanofibers exhibit excellent photocatalytic degradation and mineralization performance for tetracycline, as well as efficient photocatalytic reduction performance for Cr(VI). The formation of a favorable core-shell fiber-shaped S-scheme heterostructure with tightly contacted interface and maximum interface contact area ensures effective photo-carrier disintegration and optimal photo-redox capacity, leading to superior photo-redox ability. Furthermore, critical environmental factors and the degradation products of tetracycline were evaluated, and the decrease in eco-toxicity of TC intermediates was confirmed.

Simple and efficient method for functionalizing photocatalytic ceramic membranes and assessment of its applicability for wastewater treatment in up-scalable membrane reactors

Siwada Deepracha et al.

Summary: A photocatalytically active layer composed of TiO2 (Evonik P25) was successfully deposited on the macroporous permeate side of an asymmetric porous alumina membrane with the aid of a smectite (a synthetic hectorite, Sumecton SWF). The coated hybrid was applied for the photocatalytic decomposition of organics in water without significantly affecting the water permeance of the membranes. The implementation of a photocatalytic membrane reactor shows potential for continuous treatment of polluted waters by easily up-scaling the system with larger membrane modules.
