Fluorescence turn-on probes for intracellular DNA/RNA distribution based on asymmetric bis(styryl) dyes

Maria A. Ustimova et al.

Summary: The study found that two bis(styryl) dyes have strong affinity for DNA and RNA, with their binding mode shifting between DNA groove binding and RNA intercalation. The fluorescence enhancement effect is more pronounced on DNA than on RNA, and the presence of energy transfer in the bis(styryl) system increases the Stokes shift of the dye.

Structure-dependent mitochondria or lysosome-targeting styryl fluorophores bearing remarkable Stokes shift

Ivona Cipor et al.

Summary: A series of monocationic styryl dyes were synthesized and characterized in this study. These dyes exhibited significant spectral shift and fluorescence enhancement, and showed strong affinity to DNA/RNA binding. The positioning and electronic properties of the dyes within the DNA/RNA binding site were found to play a crucial role in their fluorescence response selectivity.

Albumin-induced large fluorescence turn ON in 4-(diphenylamino) benzothiazolium dyes for clinical applications in protein detection

Chathura S. Abeywickrama et al.

Summary: A series of fluorescent probes based on [4-(diphenylamino)]styrylbenzothiazolium were synthesized to investigate their binding properties with albumin. One of the probes exhibited significant fluorescence turn ON upon addition of serum albumin, showing high sensitivity for detecting albumin in aqueous solution with a low limit of detection. Spectrometric fluorescence titrations were conducted to study the selectivity, sensitivity, and stability of the probe-albumin complex, and the probe's binding specificity was further explored through competitive displacement method.
