Behavioral and inflammatory sex differences revealed by celecoxib nanotherapeutic treatment of peripheral neuroinflammation

Brooke Deal et al.

Summary: Neuropathic pain is a significant problem affecting millions of people worldwide, but the molecular mechanisms behind its development and persistence are not well understood. This study investigates the neuroinflammatory response to injury and pain relief therapies in males and females. The research shows that a low-dose nanotherapeutic containing an NSAID can effectively reduce pain in both males and females, although the relief is weaker in females. These findings suggest that the neuroinflammatory response differs between males and females.

Progesterone modulates neuronal excitability bidirectionally

Jaideep Kapur et al.

Summary: Progesterone acts on neurons by activating its receptor and converting to neurosteroids, enhancing the expression of AMPARs. Its metabolite allopregnanolone mediates anxiolytic and sedative effects through enhanced GABA(A)Rs activation, showing opposing roles in regulating seizures and catamenial epilepsy.

Noncoding RNA therapeutics - challenges and potential solutions

Melanie Winkle et al.

Summary: In recent years, RNA-based therapies have gained FDA approval, but there are still challenges in targeting ncRNAs. Therapeutic targeting of noncoding RNAs has the potential to become a new approach for treating diseases such as cancer.
