Optimizing the sowing window for direct-seeded rice (Oryza sativa L.) considering high yield and methane emissions in Central China

Zeyu Zhou et al.

Summary: This study explored the optimal sowing window for direct-seeded rice with the highest yield and lowest CH4 emissions. The results showed that the optimal sowing window appeared later under future scenarios than in the historical period, suggesting that the sowing date should be delayed in the future.

Impact of climate change and planting date shifts on growth and yields of double cropping rice in southeastern China in future

Ziya Zhang et al.

Summary: The impacts of future climate change on double cropping rice in Southeast China were studied. The key meteorological factors affecting double cropping rice yield and the impact of planting date shifts on phenology and yield were analyzed. The results showed that the CO2 effects had different impacts on double cropping rice yield under different scenarios. As radiative forcing increases, the importance of precipitation and solar radiation on yield decreases, while the importance of temperature increases. Optimal planting dates can increase phenology length and yield.

The Compensatory CO2 Fertilization and Stomatal Closure Effects on Runoff Projection From 2016-2099 in the Western United States

Xue-Yan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study has shown that elevated CO2 concentrations impact future water availability in the western United States through ecosystem responses, mainly through surface greening and stomatal closure effects. These two counteracting CO2 effects offset each other, leaving warming as the dominant contributor to projected decreases in runoff at large river basin scales.

Annual paddy rice planting area and cropping intensity datasets and their dynamics in the Asian monsoon region from 2000 to 2020

Jichong Han et al.

Summary: The study aims to investigate the spatiotemporal dynamics of annual paddy rice planting areas and cropping intensity in the Asian monsoon region over the last 20 years. The results show significant increases in paddy rice planting areas in northeastern China and northwestern India, while a significant decrease is observed in southern China. The study also reveals significant increases in double-cropping and triple-cropping practices in the region.

Modeling the effects of elevation and precipitation on Rice (Oryza sativa L.) production considering multiple planting methods and cultivars in Central China

Zeyu Zhou et al.

Summary: This study examines the effects of elevation and precipitation on rice production in Hubei province, China using the CERES-Rice model. The results show that elevation and precipitation have significant impacts on rice yield, with lower yields at higher elevations. Additionally, it is found that short-duration rice cultivars are more suitable for high-elevation regions, and high precipitation can facilitate the cultivation of long-duration rice cultivars in low-elevation areas.

Effects of temperature frequency trends on projected japonica rice (Oryza sativa L.) yield and dry matter distribution with elevated carbon dioxide

Zeyu Zhou et al.

Summary: This study focused on investigating the effects of temperature frequency trends on the growth and yield of japonica rice under elevated CO2 levels in future climate scenarios. It found that future temperature trends had a significant impact on rice growth, especially with an increase in higher than optimal temperatures that restricted photosynthesis. Extreme temperatures also negatively affected rice fertilization and yield. The study highlighted the complex interactions between different factors influencing rice yield.
