Blocking vicious cycle of cardiac dysfunction by external cardiopulmonary resuscitation is the key to rescue acute aluminium phosphide poisoning

Yan Shen et al.

Summary: Aluminium phosphide and aluminium zinc phosphide are commonly used fumigation drugs for killing insects or rodents in grain. Exposure to water releases highly toxic phosphine gas, which can be absorbed through the respiratory or digestive tract and lead to organ dysfunction. This study reports a successfully treated case of oral aluminium phosphide poisoning using extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and continuous renal replacement therapy during ventricular fibrillation and cardiac dysfunction.

Ross A. Farrar et al.

Summary: Phosphine poisoning is a significant issue that often results in rapid deterioration after ingestion of metal phosphides, but ECMO services can successfully rescue patients with this condition, though more evidence is needed to fully support its use.

Polina P. Savvinova et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of mechanical circulatory support in patients with acute myocardial infarction and cardiogenic shock. The results showed that patients who received mechanical circulatory support had significantly lower mortality, especially those treated with VA-ECMO.

Acute aluminum phosphide poisoning: The menace of phosphine exposure

Deepak Yadav et al.

Summary: Aluminum phosphide is widely used as a fumigant for safe food storage, but it is also a common suicidal agent with no known antidote in developing countries, leading to potential accidental exposure. AlP poisoning affects cardiac and vascular tissue directly, potentially resulting in multiorgan system failure. There is currently no specific biomarker for diagnosing and managing AlP poisoning, and clinical suspicion plays a crucial role.
