The Effects of Diet-Smoking-Gender Three-Way Interactions on Cognitive Impairment among Chinese Older Adults

Huashuai Chen et al.

Summary: The study revealed a negative correlation between dietary diversity and cognitive impairment in older adults, while smoking may diminish the protective effect of diet on cognitive function in females. Therefore, gender differences and lifestyle behaviors should be taken into consideration when implementing dietary interventions to improve cognitive function among older adults.

Elevated lipoprotein(a) and risk of coronary heart disease according to different lipid profiles in the general Chinese community population: the CHCN-BTH study

Chunyue Guo et al.

Summary: The study found that elevated Lp(a) levels were linearly associated with a higher risk of CHD in the general Chinese community population, especially in subjects with normal lipid profiles. Dyslipidemia and elevated Lp(a) independently or synergistically contributed to the risk of CHD. The study suggests that more attention should be paid to Lp(a) levels in normolipidemic subjects, which may be an early predictor of CHD.

Gender Difference in the Association Between Stroke Knowledge and Health Behavior Before the Onset of Stroke Among Chinese Hypertensive Patients

Zhuo-Ran Li et al.

Summary: Chinese male and female hypertensive stroke patients have disparities in stroke knowledge and prestroke health behavior. The correlation between these 2 variables before experiencing a hypertensive stroke was different between men and women, indicating that men with hypertension may be at a higher risk for an initial or recurrent stroke. Developing sex-specific interventions for primary or secondary stroke prevention in China is crucial.

Chuan Huang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of dyslipidemia and its related factors among urban adults aged 35 to 79 years in Southwestern China. The results showed that dyslipidemia was positively associated with higher education level, income, smoking, hypertension, diabetes, overweight and obesity, central obesity, and negatively correlated with daily exercise. The prevalence of dyslipidemia in Southwestern China is lower than the national average level, with high triglycerides being the most common form of dyslipidemia.

Disability-adjusted life years associated with population ageing in China, 1990-2017

Ruotong Li et al.

Summary: Population ageing in China from 1990 to 2017 was associated with 92.8 million DALYs, with males having more DALYs than females. The top five causes of DALYs associated with population ageing were stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), ischemic heart disease, tracheal, bronchus, and lung cancer, and liver cancer. The reduction in age-specific DALY rates had a greater impact on DALYs changes compared to population ageing, with modifiable risk factors accounting for a large portion of the reduction.
