Soluble epoxide hydrolase inhibitor, TPPU, attenuates progression of atherosclerotic lesions and vascular smooth muscle cell phenotypic switching

So Ah Kim et al.

Summary: Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammation caused by interactions between circulating factors and various cell types in blood vessel walls. This study found that TPPU has anti-atherosclerotic effects, potentially by suppressing the phenotype switching of VSMCs.

Effects of furosemide and tadalafil in both conventional and nanoforms against adenine-induced chronic renal failure in rats

Moustafa Mahmoud Hamdy et al.

Summary: This study found that nanoforms of furosemide and tadalafil had better renoprotective effects compared with conventional forms in an adenine-induced CRF rat model. The combination of the two drugs using nanoparticle formulations improved urinary, serum, and renal tissue markers of organ damage. The tubular expression of kidney injury molecule-1 and neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin was also reduced. Immunohistochemical studies showed that the deteriorated renal cellular changes were greatly improved by the combined treatment, particularly with the nanoforms.

Promoting Plant-Based Therapies for Chronic Kidney Disease

Muhammad Ali Khan et al.

Summary: Chronic kidney disease is a serious global health issue, and current therapies only delay its progression. This review explores the potential of using plant-based therapies to prevent and treat CKD. Many plants have antioxidant properties that can improve kidney function, and pre-clinical and in vivo studies have shown promising therapeutic benefits. Combining plant extracts with conventional therapies may have additive renoprotective effects. Further research is needed to rigorously test and optimize the therapeutic potential of medicinal plants.

Lindera aggregata intervents adenine-induced chronic kidney disease by mediating metabolism and TGF-β/Smad signaling pathway

Hongdie Cai et al.

Summary: Comparative studies have shown that Lindera aggregata extracts exhibit significant effects in inhibiting the rebound of indicators in chronic kidney disease models and alleviating renal tissue pathological damage. Metabolic profile analysis revealed that various metabolites related to CKD gradually returned to normal levels after intervention with Lindera aggregata extracts.

Caffeic Acid, One of the Major Phenolic Acids of the Medicinal Plant Antirhea borbonica, Reduces Renal Tubulointerstitial Fibrosis

Bryan Veeren et al.

Summary: The study shows that the polyphenol-rich extract from A. borbonica, as well as CA, can significantly improve renal tubulointerstitial fibrosis progression in the UUO mouse model through reducing macrophage infiltration, myofibroblast appearance, and extracellular matrix accumulation. Additionally, this effect is associated with the down-regulation of Tgf-beta, Tnf-alpha, Mcp1 and NfkB, as well as the upregulation of Nrf2, and an increased antioxidant enzyme activity for GPX and Cu/ZnSOD.
